I was so annoyed at the earlier episodes I deliberately didnt watch last night.. Maybe I should have !

I'm wondering if I should have given it a chance now, but the trailer so put me off wanting to watch any episode.... rolleyes.gif

Pick it up on line at Channel 4/ on demand if you really want to see it. Think the other episodes are there still...

Alexander Prior is one of the contestants in Leeds Conductors Competition which takes place next week (30 June - 4 July) at Leeds Town Hall - a chance to see him in the flesh! He is the only child contestant out of 16. www.leedsconductors.com. First and second rounds are free to watch.

Thanks! Good thinking, Dawn! I'll get onto it later. smile.gif

But I don't know if I could watch Alex for more than one episode if the trailer was anything to go by.... unsure.gif

Methinks he will be brought down a peg or two once he gets into the real world smile.gif

The whole performance of the concerto is available here http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-wor...he-performances as are performances of the prodigies.

Not watched it all yet but it was dreadfully cut on the tv. barely saw the cellist....

Thanks for the link, Dawn. I managed to miss the last programme, so it will be good to catch up.

I watched the first part of the performance and was very impressed by the children, particularly the young pianist. They must have gained so much from taking part.

oooh... I see Daniele Rosina is on the list... We grew up making music in the same orchestras. Much nicer person than Alex prior....

That program irritates me, yet still I watch it dry.gif

The Chinese kids, one of the mothers said "There are these really, really pushy parents who put loads of pressure on their kids and make their whole lives revolve around music, and can physically punish them for not practicing" or something like that...

Then she was asked whether he plays with his friends a lot "Oh no, I don't think it's very important. I'd much prefer he was doing 5 hours of music practice after school. He doesn't really have time for friends or games, he gets home from school, does his homework, then practices."

How can they be so obsessed?! These kids are going to be social zombies who can't interact with anyone when they're older!

sometimes being musically brilliant brings pride and prestige to the children's parents. some of them, the slightly poorer parents, see music as the kids way out of poverty etc etc (if the kids do thrive later).... when i was a kid, i had a similar routine, but less hours of practice though. i didn't get a chance for a change till i started school in England in year 9.
