Hi - I'm looking for a viola book with exercises to start learning to shift position - the one my teacher recommended seems to be out of print - I've had a good trawl through the internet but can't find anyone with it in stock.

Can anyone recommend anything?

many thanks
primrose
The one I'm familiar with, and would recommend, is Neil Mackay, "Position Changing for the Viola". Some online stores seem to have it.

I will recommend that even though I've never seen a viola book in my life! Reason why: I have this book for the violin (same author same everything) and I found it really good biggrin.gif

That's the book I'm supposed to be getting but i only found places that said it was out of stock and they didn't know when they would get it back in again.

Off to have another trawl!

It is available on abebooks but probably at rather more than you would like to pay for it!

Thanks for finding it, but yes - it is a little pricey!

Wondering whether to try 'phoning a couple of local music shops on the off chance.

I'm surprised that this seems to be the only book covering the subject - maybe I should write one - once I've learnt how to do it of course!

Sounds like a good idea.

A couple of years ago I was looking for a second-hand copy of an oboe concerto (oboe part and piano reduction) which had gone out of print. I finally found a shop with a "new" copy that had been on the shelf for donkey's years. They sold it to me for the price on the cover: £1.75 smile.gif
