I hope this thread hasn't been here before.
I voted Walton's because of its 3rd movement.
It has rather jazzy harmony i think in the end. wub.gif

I really like the Walton - I have a recording of Helen Callus playing it. I like the Bartok too but haven't heard the Hindemith.

My big favourite at the moment though is the Telemann Gmajor... because it's simple enough for me to learn to play parts of it laugh.gif

I much prefer the older ones, which are more tuneful. smile.gif Hoffmeister, Telemann etc. I'm not at all big on 20C music. sad.gif

All time fave viola piece is the Glazunov Elegy. wub.gif

Agreed the Glasunov is excellent.

From the list I would pick the Walton. He also composed an excellent "Suite for Viola and small orchestra". I prefer solo works or sonatas though. The Shostakovich sonata is wonderful as is Britten's Lachrymae.
