Hi! This is my first post so I hope I'm doing it right biggrin.gif

Can any of you recommend piano books that have worked well for your teen/adult learners?

I have a 'late-starter' teen girl who has now got a good grounding in the basics in both clefs (hands together) around Middle C, but needs a very step-by-step approach to help her grasp the next level.

Any ideas very gratefully received!! Thanks in advance smile.gif

I'd recommend the Hal Leonard Adult Piano Method by Kern, Keveren, Kreader and Rejino. It is quite pricey but will last probably a year. It has great backing tracks, a variety of styles and includes improvisation exercises. It has been very popular with my adult students and I use individual pieces for several younger pupils as well with success.

I've used Pam Wedgwood's 'It's never too late to learn piano' with adult beginners and supplemented it with other repertoire once they have got passed the first half a dozen units or so. I don't think I would use it with a teenager beginner though - I haven't taught many teenagers and none who are early beginners.

I've used Microjazz with teenage beginners. There are two early books:

M J for Absolute Beginners and M J for Beginners. Your pupil might be able to skip the Absolute Beginners' book. M J for Beginners assumes you know nine notes around middle C plus B flat.
