Hi,

I was wondering what would be a suitable study if you just want to study composition and orchestration.
I do not wish to pursue a study with emphasis on practial/instrument playing.
I do play several instruments but I want to study musical composition and orchestration specifically. wub.gif

Any ideas? biggrin.gif

Have you taken all the theory grades? After my Grade 8 (this Saturday) I'm planning to take a ATCL in Theory and Composition, and then the LTCL level has two diplomas - one theory and one composition.

On the way through the Theory grades you can also do Composition grades - these are postal exams submitted to LCM.

Many local authorities offer evening classes in music appreciation. It would be a good plan to find one of these in your area and sign up.

I see they operate from Ireland as well (LCM). Can you follow classes for this or can I do this study at home? huh.gif

You work from home on your own initiative - I think you'd need a teacher though. Self-taught is possible up to about grade 5 theory but after that it's vastly easier with a good teacher. Getting some keyboard skills is pretty much essential too.
