Hi everyone
Apologies for using my first post as a shameless plug!
If anyone lives in the North East of England, and would like to join a relaxed community orchestra, then Darlington Orchestra may be for you! Most of our players are of Grade V or above, though there is no audition - we just reckon that's about the standard you would need to be in order to comfortably manage most of the rep. You can always come along and have a go.
We aim to play 2 concerts a year, and we have one coming up on Saturday 4th July at Darlington Arts Centre, which would be an ideal time to come and check us out. Pieces for this include the Nutcracker Suite, Swan Lake, Vaughan Williams' Sea Songs - Quick March, Thievish Magpie, and so on.
As the name might suggest, I'm a trumpet player, so I have a particular interest in brass - we're desperate for low brass (trombones, maybe even a tuba though not all the rep has tuba parts) and horns. However, we're also low on violas (if that's the correct plural!) and double bass. However, if you play a different instrument to those I've just mentioned please don't be put off - we'd still love to see you!
If you want any more details feel free to PM or reply to this - we range from about 17/18 upwards, so any age is welcome!
All the best,
Ben

Hi Trumpet_Ben, welcome - and no need to apologise for offering people a new opportunity to make music together!

I've put a link to this thread in the
Playing Opportunities near you thread, which is pinned at the top of the Forum Events sub-forum in General Music, so even when this thread drops down the list, people will hopefully still be able to find you.
I like the sound of your programme on the 4th - hope the concert goes well

I perhaps should have said - we rehearse on a Tuesday 7pm - 9pm.

I've seen the Darlington Orchestra play at one of their concerts, and really enjoyed it

Hope you get some new players in, Ben.

Aww, thanks! Probably before my time as I only joined last September (and have therefore only played one concert so far!) but I shall pass that on.

Darlington Orchestra is looking for new players!
On 7th July 2012, Darlington Orchestra will be holding the final concert at the Darlington Arts Centre, which is closing due to budget cuts. However, the Orchestra is keen to move forwards, and will continue to play at venues across the North East region.
We're looking for new members to join us in this exciting new chapter of the orchestra. Currently, our members range in age from 16 upwards, and are of all levels of playing from Grade IV to post-graduate/professionals. We have vacancies for all strings, brass, percussion, and some woodwind. In the past we have played everything from Bach to Bacharach, and from Mozart to Mancini, so there's something in the pad for everyone.
Darlington Orchestra is a non-auditioning orchestra, and all rehearsals are open, so if you'd like to come along we'd love to see you! We rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm at St Thomas Aquinas Church Hall, North Road, Darlington, DL1 2PU
