Sorry , just couldnt get away early enough from Wirral to drive right over to York.
I do seem to live half my life on the M62 these days.
So I hope all goes well, though I doubt you will see this post until its all over.

I'm probably first one back. The rest will be scoffing pizza now smile.gif

It was great - Despite some hiccoughs (rather major I think) which meant a last minute venue change - Barry and the crew managed to keep their cool and their nerve and put on a fantastic performance. They were all Fab!!! clap.gif woot.gif hurrah.gif clap.gif to you all. You were great!!!!

I've come away with some more music to buy ideas rolleyes.gif

Also: although I've never been a violin enthusiast I was absolutely captivated by Bohemian's playing. WOW!!! violin.gif

Barry played very capably as usual and the clarinetists in the audience were wowed by his comand of the instrument and in particular the high notes. (Clarijo's face looked like this ohmy.gif ) smile.gif clarinet.gif

Mw1 played almost constantly - accompanying everything very capably and played some wonderful solos too. piano.gif My attempts at Comptine d'un autre etre (sp?) last year were embarrassingly poor next to yours. blush.gif

Celeste: What a lovely voice smile.gif "Bring him home" and One of your others nearly brought tears to my eyes - such emotive pieces.

Well done all of you clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif biggrin.gif

And also, nice to meet all you forum friends - new and old. smile.gif Hope to see you again soon.

What a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon! I really enjoyed listening to all the performances and heartily second Dawn's comments above. I can well imagine that my face must have looked just as Dawn says it did when Barry hit those high notes!!

I also thought that Comptine d'autre ete was absolutely fantastic and looked it up as soon as I got home - this is one which will drive me to keep at it with the piano playing!

I would also like to add that everyone was very professional about the last minute venue change and the performances were absolutely flawless. My daughter very much enjoyed the afternoon too. smile.gif

It was lovely to meet everyone and put some faces to names too! I will look forward to meeting up again!

agree.gif with all of the above too! A very enjoyable afternoon (apart from the rain...!). Lovely playing and singing from all the performers and as others have said, the last-minute venue change was very professionally handled. It was good to meet up with forum people again too. smile.gif I feel all inspired now and have been playing my violin for the first time in ages tonight. violin.gif

Very much enjoyed the recital, and also meeting clarijo and DawnF for the first time as well as several familiar faces again.

Agree with everyone else about the Comptine d'autre ete, and I must go and look Tiersen up now* because I don't know him but it was lovely piece (and beautifully played biggrin.gif )

*Edit: Just looked him up - and oldnotes.. we were right! (see this link)

Edit2: According to Tiersen's web site, he has York down as a concert date, but his calendar doesn't say whether it's 2009 or 2010...

Thanks to those who came, and thank you also for your kind words. smile.gif It was a lovely, if chaotic, day!

agree.gif that everyone put on a splendid performance yesterday. Well done to one and all. Great to meet up with forum members, those I already knew and new faces too. I wonder how long it will be until I can get to top B on the clari? clarinet.gif

Ok.
By the way, a certain music purchase was approved. Left my copy behind today.
Looks like we might have something lined up for the solos concert.

Well...that was a day to remember! biggrin.gif

Thanks must go to my fellow performers, mwl1, Celeste and bohemian. Going in that order, mwl1, you are a fine pianist and a sensitive accompanist, and you're going to go far. And your efforts in sorting out the new venue were nothing short of heroic. I'd be totally and utterly chuffed to work with you again! smile.gif

Celeste : I'd go out and buy a Celeste CD! biggrin.gif Your voice has a purity that I think is very appealing and very easy on the ear. I like Celtic music, too, and you are outstanding at singing those sorts of works. Well done you! smile.gif

bohemian : You get better every time I hear you! I really have no idea how you can find your way round that violin so quickly! Again, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you! smile.gif

And thank you for all your kind comments, I'm glad you enjoyed what I had to offer smile.gif

It was very pleasing to see a good forum contingent in the audience : I'm glad you all enjoyed it, thank you all for coming smile.gif

I'm hoping to organise another recital in the area about the same time next year : if you'd like to perform, let me know (and certainly, if this year's recitalists want to return, whether in York or elsewhere, the answer is yes!). More details much nearer the time.

Thank you all again! smile.gif
