Hey everyone

I know I should put this in the cafe really (if it's even still around), but seeing as I spent most of my time in here when I was around last year I thought it may be better here.

So anyway, after a long time suffering from depression, eating disorders and horrible stuff like that I'm now pleased to say that I'm back to properly practicing and playing my clarinet and saxophone, and loving every minute of it!! I can't believe I ever left it for so long (although I was still having lessons I never actually got it out to play at home).

I'm off to uni in October and hoping that I can find some groups etc to join down there, and maybe do a little bit of teaching if I can fit it in around my health and studies etc.

So yeah, this was kinda a pointless post and no doubt many of you won't have a clue who I am or remember me, but just to say I'm back in full force!!

Hope everyone else is ok,

Lizzie

I knew there was one thing I wanted to ask.....what would be good music for me to get back into playing properly? I was grade 8 ish standard, and I think I'm stioll around that level, but not too sure. Now I have three months of holiday I'd like to play as much as I possibly can!

Purple dolphin! smile.gif Really pleased to see you again.

I will get some of my studies sent to you, I promise (see, I haven't forgotten!)

Don't know which uni you're off to, but if it's SE England, do PM me, and I'll suggest some stuff to you. If you're ending up really local to me, I may even be able to offer you some teaching links.

Some music to try : Southwold Sonatina (Rae), 4 Characteristic Pieces (Hurlstone), the Saint Saens Sonata, I'd see if you can get your fingers round the Mozart concerto too. smile.gif

You remembered!!! *is gobsmacked!!*

Hopefully, results permitting I'll be in Oxford, so probs too far west I'd imagine. If not and my results haven't gone my way, which I won't be surprised by, I'll be in York, so even further away!! Dtudying chemistry if I get into Oxford and medicinal chemistry if I go to York.

Thanks for the music suggestions. I've got the Mozart so I'll have a bash through that. I think I may have the Saint Saens but knowing my music collection I haven't a clue where it would be. And I WILL get and look at the Southwold defos seeing as I seem to remember going on and on about it a while ago and never getting round to actually learning it!!

Awww, it's so great to be back!! I've looked in a few times but since I wasn't playing I've never posted. But no I'm determined to get back to my clari!!.......(and sax but that's lower down the list!!)

OK. If you end up in York, PM DawnF (a new forum member you probably haven't met yet), she's got an excellent clari teacher in that area, and she plays in the local concert band.

Welcome back.

Glad to hear you're back to practising. I've been through some similar stuff of late. smile.gif

I'm starting at York Uni in September... so maybe see you there! Of course, I hope you get the results you need for Oxford, but if not let me know if you like.

And of course people remember you. biggrin.gif

Sorry to hear you've been struggling too.

What are you studying at York?
Miss Ross
Education Studies (as opposed to teaching smile.gif). Hopefully, anyway! I'll be going to Glasgow if not. Have you just finished your exams or did you have a year out too?

Which college? I'll hopefully be at Christ Church. I applied to Jesus, but in many ways am so glad I got into Christ Church instead, just because it's bigger and there will be more people around.

That's the one next to Exeter and near Jesus isn't it? Hehe, so funny that we applied for colleges and in the end swapped locations almost exactly between us!!

Hi purple dolphin, and welcome back. biggrin.gif

Good choice, Christ Church. Convenient for the Faculty of Music, and a decent music room and college orchestra too. Not that I'm biased, of course...... tongue.gif

yay.gif another musical chemist !!

Good luck with your chemistry (I graduated Nottingham in 1968) and your music. I've had a great career in the chemical industry (less than two years to go), and great fun out of remaining an 'enthusiastic amateur' in music.
