Full Version: The Shy Guy Sings

There's only been one lesson so far, but I'm tickled that son Airman has taken up singing lessons. He's terribly, terribly shy in front of people he doesn't know well, could hardly say hello to the teacher...but when the teacher said "Sing!", what do you know, Airman simply stood up and sang! sing.gif

Who would have thought that singing to strangers could be so much more enjoyable than speaking to them!

The house has been resounding to "Caro Mio Ben" by our newly designated tenor, and I hope things continue as they've started! I'm also very grateful to the teacher (who also teaches Viohazard solfege) for his modest fees, adaptability, and calm and down-to-earth approach.

That's excellent, Allears. Hope Airman really enjoys his singing biggrin.gif

And do remind him that the tenor usually gets the girl...............

A noteworthy point entirely overlooked in this household, where The Flying Dutchman DVD has had a few too many airings.

What I'm wondering is how long Caro Mio Ben is going to hold out before the lyrics are adapted to one of Airman's "commentaries" on local politics...his only reason for singing up until now!

Airman surprised me tonight by coming home from his 3rd lesson, and singing for a family friend with no hesitation at all. By no means a perfect rendition, but you could see the effect of lessons already in every aspect of his singing - posture and breath control of course, but also rhythm and expression.

Looks like this week's lesson was on how to wave your hands around! smile.gif

Overheard the following brotherly cooperation in singing practice...

Airman: "Are those slugs or fingers? Play it a bit faster, can't you?"

Viohazard: "Open your mouth...it sounds like you're doing your singing practice in the dentist's chair!"

...

Airman: "OK, now let's do that gloomy 'Nietzsche' thing."

Viohazard, thumbing through Arie Antiche Italiane: "'Nietzsche'? Oh, 'Nina', OK."
