Ive got rather a sad thing to so this afternoon when I turn off. I have to write a letter of condolence to the family of an ex-pupil who has so sadly died at the age of just twenty after a long illness. It has been a distressing week as I teach several of her friends and cousins.

I will try to work out a verbal reasoning question which NOBODY in my family has not yet solved...
Here is the question giving us a headache.
Give two missing numbers in the following sequences:
example: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10
Question: 6, 7, 9, 5, 12, 3
This is one of 20 questions which you are supposed to finish in 10 minutes. My daughter was not able to answer it, and we, parents, took it over "Oh, let me see..." We got stuck, so we looked at the answers. We have been spending two days now to work out how 5, and 12 get in there! Anybody???

Don't give up! Mind you...we have started to wonder that there maybe an error in the question, or in the answer, because we just cannot figure it out... We have got 19 questions right (eventually), but this question is killing us. I am hoping amongst the posters here in the Forum this question is answered and explained. Help!

The 1st, 3rd and 5th numbers are a sequence, with 3 being added between each number.
The 2nd, 4th and 6th numbers are a separate sequence with 2 being subtracted from each number.

Sounds probable, I haven't done anything with verbal reasoning for over a year though (I used to supervise a group who did some verbal reasoning each week after my lesson).
I'm going to go to bed, as this time tomorrow night I will be on a ferry in the English Channel!
