Nice idea! I think I know somebody who might like to play fiddle if you'd like to sing, Miss Ross (full name, note angel.gif tongue.gif)

Shame about Drumchick, notmusimum - hope her job's going well. Will await to hear from you on emsoboe's friend smile.gif

Aw, call me Flossy? I much prefer it! laugh.gif

More Telemann would be great, nova! smile.gif

I was wondering if anyone (not necessarily for this concert) would be intersted in maybe putting together a wee traditional-sounding group - maybe just a voice, accoustic guitar, flute and maybe a fiddle? I've got music that would work... Let me know if you're interested! smile.gif

Would love to play fiddle (if you haven't already got one that is,).

DaisyChain
I'll be there, all being well. smile.gif
Solari
I might be up for playing something in Jan or maybe later - it depends how traumatic I find playing at a pupil's concert in September as to whether I'll want to play again in front of a load of people! smile.gif
HenryJ
These concerts look very varied. When do you hold rehearsals for them?
Henry.
Babybird2
We rehearse in the morning and perform in the afternoon, usually smile.gif
HenryJ
With but one rehearsal? I am most impressed.

If it's a duet or ensemble then you have to practice your part on your own and then it all gets put together on the day. It works very well biggrin.gif
DaisyChain
We're all a very supportive group, Henry. Come and join us at the event. I'm sure we'd be happy to hear you sing. We can always do with more male voices for the choir. party1.gif
Flossie
It's not a public concert, and perfect performances aren't required. smile.gif If it was the type of event where every slight mistake or imperfection is frowned upon or ridiculed then I wouldn't have gone in the first place, and certainly wouldn't be going back again. laugh.gif

The purpose is to have fun and enjoy making music with other people, it's not about showing off how good you are or anything like that. smile.gif I played my violin at the May concert having only had the instrument two weeks (and yes, it was a completely new instrument for me rather than a replacement for an existing one). ph34r.gif
sarah-flute
I can thoroughly recommend forum events generally (although not yet been to a specific players for pleasure one - I hope to soon!) for a supportive atmosphere and boundless wells of encouragement and fun, no matter what your ability level is smile.gif

Do come Solari! Several people come up from "down south" and either do it in a day by train or stay overnight smile.gif

biggrin.gif Amazing innit! laugh.gif

Henry, in the meantime have a look at the other event I'm organising which is only just over the bridge from South Wales - it's an informal recital-type event, mainly for advanced pianists and singers, and I think you might enjoy it. I'll do a link to my Dyrham Park thread in a minute and if you'd like to come, I'll put you on the list for an application form, although numbers are limited with it being a National Trust property so I can't guarantee a place smile.gif

Edit: Link to the Dyrham Park thread (although there are some posts to do with Dyrham Park earlier in this thread as well)

Yes, the aim is to have an enjoyable time making music for both your own pleasure and others. And in the three years I've been running them, it's great to see how people's confidence has grown with each one. Some advanced people come and they play/sing some wonderful pieces, but they're just as supportive of everyone else who is at a lower level. I'm sure new members would enjoy it smile.gif

bob1purpleviolin
I'd love to come, providing I can make it (we've trying to move down south). Assuming I can make it (was so much fun last time - I'll let you know in a month or so if I can), do you have any guides on how long solos are meant to be? And would it be okay if I did something slightly folky?

Thanks

I'd be up for a choir piece. I'm not male, unfortunately - either alto or second soprano, depending on how high the line is. Anything higher than an E requires the person standing next to me to tread on my foot at the appropriate moment biggrin.gif

QUOTE(skylark @ Aug 2 2009, 07:33 AM) *

Sax ensemble - just 3 so far, unless St George and I get to grips with our respective tenor and soprano, but that seems a bit unlikely biggrin.gif Has anybody got any music for a sax trio/ensemble?

What sax 'voices' are signed up so far? I remember seeing somewhere an arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon for a sax quartet (both for AATB and SATB), and from memory you could probably have dispensed with the baritone line without it sounding too awful... might be a bit ambitious, though, even so!

There could well be a Baritone present if required and we can bag a lift over biggrin.gif

Look forward to seeing you again, and something folky would be great - I don't think we've had anything folky at any of the Leeds concerts before smile.gif It looks like we're having a fiddle ensemble this time instead of a string ensemble so no doubt Miss Ross will be liaising with you... smile.gif

Length of slot... a bit too soon to say for definite but probably around 3.5 mins.

QUOTE(skylark @ Aug 2 2009, 07:33 AM) *

at this concert I'd like to be able to offer two solo slots by cutting down on the large ensembles and maybe the duets. I think what I'll say at this stage - bit early yet to be planning tongue.gif - is that performers can probably count on, say, four slots in total, being a mixture of solos, duets, trios, but if you want to play a couple of solos, then please don't count on being in more than a couple of duets. I might be able to extend this though when I know how many people are coming as I'm not expecting as many as at the summer concert. In practice I'd like to think that there will be opportunity to be in more duets/trios but let's see how it goes smile.gif

When I wrote the above, I was only expecting around the same number as at the last winter concert, which was around 16. However, there are currently over 20 definites/probables and a few possibles, and there's still several months to go in which other people might want to come. So can I just reiterate that I'll still try and accommodate everybody in, say, four* appearances on stage and more if possible but please don't hold me to that. And if anybody's not happy with their allocation in the end, I'll refund your performers fee.

Accompanying

* I've asterisked the pianists who are normally willing to accompany but if anybody doesn't want to accompany this time, just let me know, it's not a problem smile.gif

** I've double-asterisked the pianists who don't play any other instrument and it would be nice if they could be given first refusal so that everybody has broadly equal playing opportunities (ie up to a total of 4 appearances on stage, until final numbers are confirmed)

If anybody's not clear on anything or if I've misunderstood anything, please post!

I've amended my above post to add kerioboe to the oboe ensemble and she's also said she's willing to accompany. She's going to get in touch with a few people about playing together when she's back online smile.gif

Hi Nicia-clarinet-flute - I'll leave it as per the above for the time being, I won't be looking at the Leeds concert in detail until sometime after the Dyrham Park event is over smile.gif

Great about the soprano - I can't wait to hear it! I'll edit the sax ensemble above smile.gif
