I guess we could do a survey here of people's results but that might not answer your question.
I think probably the only people who'll really "know" are those who work in the Exams Dept at ABRSM and I doubt they'd say. You could try asking though!

All instrument exams on this board are marked out of 150.
100 is a pass, 120 merit and 130 distinction.

doesn't really matter...as long as you've tried your best...

The highest mark that i had ever heard of is a boy who got 149 for his pno exam in Singapore. this is wot my friend who studied there had told me. this boy had only learnt to play the pno for 4 years. he got full marks in everything except the scales which he missed 1 mark.
Professor Edward Ho (a former ABRSM examiner) told me that examiners can only give 147 for the highest. they aren't allowed to give 150, nor marks like 99, 119 n 129, these marks are also not allowed. the highest mark that he had ever given was 146 for a clarinetist.
should candidates receive 145 or above, they will receive silver medals.
i have also heard of a story from my fd. she knew a girl in S'pore who got 146 for her G8 pno but had failed the old Ad Cert 2 times n DipABRSM 4 times!
u c.. distinctions in graded exams doesn't mean anything!
