Well basically, for my 2nd year of A Levels, we have to do a performance next year and the minimum grade you can play at is grade 6. And i'd really like to play

Chopin Nocturne No.11 Op.37 No.1 in G minor
Chopin Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2
and
Nocturne in C-sharp Minor (Op. Posth.)

could anyone tell me what kind of grade standard these nocturnes are as i really want to play them (especially the c sharp minor as its amazing)!!

Thanks smile.gif

My guess is that they're all at least grade 8.

I'd agree with Sarah, however, wouldn't it make your life easier, if you played pieces a little below grade 8 standard say, grade 7, as you will get the more difficult marks still, and you won't be making your life harder than it has to be.

oh really?? i didn't think they were about grade 8 standard blink.gif , they don't look too difficult!!
apparently you don't really get marked on the difficulty of the pieces, just as long as they're grade 6 or above. guessing this means i could go a bit lower to make life easier because i wont lose marks...i might consider that, thanks for the replies guys happy.gif

Have you played them yet? They look easy enough on the page, but they aren't when it comes to playing them. I would go for something easier, nerves might get the better of you on the day, and then you won't have extra difficulties of a piece at your actual standard but something just below. Plus it will give you more time to focus on other aspects of the course.

Harmonie,

I believe the Chopin Nocturne in C# Minor (op. posth) is currently on the Trinigy Guildhall 'Advanced Certificate - so it's above Grade 8 standard.

Not sure about the others though.

correction 'Trinigy' = Trinity.... blush.gif

These are nice pieces but apparenlty they would prefer this year to have quite a wide range of styles however it is your choice.
