Hello!

Im a drummer, among other things, and I'm just wondering if anyone knows if drum (as in 'drum kit' drums) exams exist. Im pretty sure ABRSM doesn't offer them. Does anyone know anything about them?

LCM offers several graded percussion exams, including drum kit, as does Trinity Guildhall. both of these boards are accredited to the same level as ABRSM, meaning that a grade X LCM or TG exam is roughly equivalent to the same grade AB exam.

Trinity Guidhall see here - drum kit exams

and

Rockschool see here

Daughter's experience has been that TG exams are more orientated towards reading the music, Rockschool more improvisation / fills required. You may have to travel some distance for TG - they have specialist examiners for drums.

Both boards publish books with CD backing tracks and all the requirements for the exam. TG have two grades per book.

Hope this helps smile.gif

i looked at that, but it only listed tuned percussion and timpani, which doesn't seem to be what he's looking for.
