Please could answer a question on the pre-requisites for ABRSM Principles of Instrumental Teaching.

I see that ABRSM grade 6 Theory is required (1992 syllabus) or substitution. I have grade 8 Theory, dated Spring 1981. Can you tell me if this is acceptable.

Thanks katyjay - actually I e-mailed them and this is the reply:

I can confirm that it will be possible for you to use your grade 8 theory from 1981 to enter for DipABRSM Teaching. Please attach a photocopy of the relevant certificate to your diploma entry form. Please note, however, that if you decide to progress to LRSM Teaching in the future, it is likely that you will need to retake grade 8 theory, as for the purposes of this higher diploma, you must hold grade 8 theory taken in 1992 or later. The exception to this would be if you hold another theory qualification that can be used in substitution for grade 8 theory, such as a music degree with verified theory modules.
