Hi, I'm new here, I only just registered but I'm taking my singing diploma this wednesday and I'm really rather nervous about the whole thing!

I took my Grade 8 four years ago now, when I was 14 and I think I've forgotten what the whole exam experience is like! blink.gif ill.gif wacko.gif

I know the Diploma is a completely different kettle of fish, which I think makes me even more worried!

It would be lovely to hear what you think about my programme and if you have any tips for the "big day"!!

Domine Deus - Vivaldi
Seufzer Tranen - Bach
Apres Un Reve - Faure
Air Vif - Poulenc
- 5 min break -
With Verdure Clad (The Creation) - Haydn
In uomini, in soldati (Cosi Fan Tutti) - Mozart
Corpus Christi Carol - Benjamin Britten
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord - Michael Head

Hi, welcome to the forums - I'm a pianist so am not familiar with your repertoire, but very best of luck. The general advise is always applicable, dress for the weather so you're comfortable, remember your music and a bottle of water and I hope you enjoy your performance.

Let us know how you get on.

Welcome to the forums, aliceflapjack. How did you come up with that username? tongue.gif biggrin.gif

It looks a good programme. Good luck on Wednesday! smile.gif

Hi Alice and welcome to the forums

That looks a nice programme, with a good range of genres and languages.

At this stage, all I can say is the very best of luck on Wednesday and enjoy showing the examiners what you can do biggrin.gif

Nice-looking programme. smile.gif Be prepared to sing to the tops of the examiners' heads - they don't look up much. smile.gif Make sure you practise in the clothes (and shoes!) you will be wearing in case things feel different. And see if you can enjoy yourself a bit - it is a useful experience, if a bit daunting.

Oh, and welcome to the Forums. biggrin.gif

Thank you for the lovely warm welcome! smile.gif

Holz Gedeckt - I have a Connemara Pony called Beenleighford Flapjack wub.gif So that's where the "Flapjack" part of my username comes from! tongue.gif

I keep saying to myself, even if I don't do my best, just try to enjoy it because it's going to be a brilliant experience anyway! Hopefully I will be able to control my nerves!

Thank you for the replies! I think I'm slightly more relaxed about it all. But I'm sure the nerves will start building up again tomorrow!!

Just a question or two,

When I get called in, do I just go to the examiners, give them the programme notes and my music and then start singing?

Also some of my music is in a book of songs, should I open them onto the correct pages before handing them to the examiners?

Yes to the first, although they will probably tell you to take your time, start when you are ready and treat it like a recital: in other words not to wait to be told when to move on to the next song.

I think marking the page in some way is essential - perhaps put a post-it type tag on the appropriate page.

Good luck. smile.gif

Okay thank you!

Hopefully the examiners won't mind pink post-it notes! tongue.gif

Well I've done it! Not entirely sure it was 100% perfect but what's done is done!

I think my programme went well! Although in places I forgot my words and my timing may have been off slightly but apart from that I was confident and think it was ok! smile.gif

Some of the questions asked were a bit vague and I struggled to answer them, I am not confident speaking either so I'm not sure what they will say about that! But they did ask me whether I wanted to add anything and I told them about the pathetic cadance and the neopoliton 6th in the Bach piece and the fact its in Dorian mode but really C minor.....!

Then the quick study! Oh my lord! It was awful. I have never been good at sight singing so knew I would never manage this very well anyway! Started off confident but by the end I was wavering a bit!

Oh well! It was a good experience!

Well done for attempting it. Here's hoping for a good result
