Absolutely true, Flossie. It's real name is monstera deliciosa, and it's nicknamed the Swiss Cheese plant because of the holes which develop in the mature leaves.

I've just put it into google and it seems they do exist.
It says they are poisonous to both human and animals. 
Not a good thing to interact with too closely!
