Full Version: Looking For 'simple' Music Piece For Flute + Piano?

Hi all.

I'm studying for Grade 1 piano, but my teacher feels I can play some pieces that are actually Grade 2. My wife has been playing the flute for 30 years (she is not Grade 1 blink.gif ). So.... I am trying to find a reasonably easy piece of music that we can play as a duet together.

She can easily play Grade 5+ flute pieces, but I wouldn't want the piano accompaniment to be harder than Grade 3. Obviously, I don't intend to learn it overnight, but I'd like our kids to see us playing a piece together. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or suggestions where to seek out sheet music for this? (I'm in US.)

Cheers,
Ezra

Had a good look around the web?

I've found loads of free stuff (pdf files) just by typing in "free sheet music recorder duet" (as I play the recorder, or at least try to).

For example:

http://www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-....php?pdf=13484# will give you a version of greensleeves for flute and piano. I have a recorder and piano version of "Lascia ch'io pinga" (Haendel) from the same site. I'm sure there's a version for flute/piano.
Also try www.mfiles.co.uk, there's a version of Satie's Gymnopédie for flute and piano....

To my knowledge all of this is offered freely and legitimately... I have never "pirated" anything (and wouldn't know how to anyway). Any conditions are stipulated on the pages anyway.

I haven't taken any exams myself so have no idea what Grades mean in terms of level so, of course, I can't judge the level of the piano bits ... however, I think if you spend a bit of time on these sites and elsewhere you may come up with something..

Hope that's helpful

Ezra, I just happened to be on http://www.free-scores.com and saw to the bottom left of the web page the top 15 downloads which happen to include Canon in D for Piano and Flute.

It says its intermediate (I downloaded it and had a look) and does start off easy but gets more difficult, but it is such an amazing piece, it may be worth a try!

I purchased a piano solo of it for my ipod and my daughters dance around like Ballerinas to it, so its a hit with girls for sure (if you have girls that is). piano.gif

Thanks for your advice on my earlier thread.

I have 4 girls and 1 boy. I'm sure it'll be a hit in my household as well. biggrin.gif

How'd you feel about commissioning some new work, Ezra? It's just struck me that a request on the composition and theory forum might turn up some ideas for you - as a reasonable flautist and rather poor pianist, I'm quite tempted myself to have a go at putting something together for you!

Got to be worth a try wink.gif

Hi Erza,
My friend and I wrote a piece for piano and flute quite a while back, in April. Its about one and a half minutes long and is quite nice. (Not to sound vein)
I was 14 and she was 15 when we wrote it.
If you would like the sheet music for it, then please let me know by personal message or alternatively you could email me at samuelish@hotmail.co.uk
Hope I can help biggrin.gif

Have a look at Faure's Morceau de concours. The piano part is all slow chords: the flute part is around Grade 7 (but is musically, rather than technically difficult). Another option is Cecilia McDowall's Six Pastiches, most of which have fairly easy piano parts.
