A friend has just sent me this - I won't be going myself, but thought it might be of interest to others:

Leeds Pianothon
12 September, Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall, Leeds

Join the Radio 3 Pianothon!

On Saturday 12 September, to coincide with the final day of the Leeds International Piano Competition, BBC Radio 3 will be celebrating the wealth of amateur piano playing in and around Leeds with an all-day Pianothon to take place in the beautifully restored Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall.

Pianists of all ages and abilities will come together for this fun and inclusive event, which will give them the opportunity to perform in an informal concert environment, and give you the chance to hear them!

Star professional pianists Benjamin Frith and Noriko Ogawa will be giving masterclasses to some lucky participants during the day and the event will be hosted by Radio 3 presenter Sarah Walker.

All the performances will be recorded and made available on the Radio 3 website. You can also hear a selection of performances on air the following week in Afternoon on 3 (weekdays 2-5pm) and in Breakfast (every morning from 7am).

Organised by BBC Radio 3 in association with the Leeds International Piano Competition, the Pianothon will run throughout the day from 9.30am - 4.30pm on Saturday 12 September in the Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall, Leeds.

Registration for the morning session opens at 9am and registration for the afternoon session opens at 1pm.

The event is free and informal. Audiences are encouraged to come and go as they please.

For further information about the event, visit the Leeds Pianothon Website.

To apply for tickets, visit the BBC Tickets Website or call the BBC Ticket Line on 0370 901 1227*.

We look forward to seeing you in our audience very soon.
Kind regards

Thanks for posting!

I went on the website straight away and registered as a player (geeky, I know!) The only thing is, once you complete the form it tells you that you only find out 10 days before the event if you're actually going to be playing. Bit scary, not knowing, but I guess I'd better get practising anyway!

Thanks for posting Jo. I've just arranged to do something at the Yorkshire College of Music on the morning of the 12th but I'll try and get along to listen to the afternoon session. If anyone wants to meet up, do email or PM me smile.gif
