Greetings;
Would you happen to have any suggestions/tips to develop a new student's trumpet embochure
Some say buzzing the lips is useless.
some say just put the instrument on the lips and try to get the sound is the best way to go.
I'm curious to know what the people on this board say.
Sincerely
stephen

Hello Stephen, It's a good question that has many answers.
I have alot of experience in this field and wouldn't rubbish any technique but I think buzzing the correct way has many advantages.
You can buzz on the red, dry area of the lip which gives a brittle sound and is likely to pitch quite high. You achieve this buy rolling the lips in slightly.
In my opinion it is better to buzz at a lower pitch with the softer wetter area of the lip.
The pitch of the natural lip buzz will (in general) be an octave higher when the mouthpiece is placed on the lips.
I have just finished writing and programming a CDrom for beginner players. It is different from all other methods because it gives 8 ways to produce your first notes. Let me know if you are interested.
The main thing is that the lips are vibrating and fed with enough air.
Hope that helps.
