Got precisely 15 minutes notice of this today so obviously they didn't get it - in fact I didn't see the heading on the service sheet until after the first hymn! wacko.gif

Has anyone been asked for this and does it work on the organ? I've just listened to it on Youtube and it seems very pianistic. Definitely didn't float my boat but I suppose it ought to be added to the repertoire in case anyone else asks for it.

I'd be grateful for any experiences of this piece.

Can't help on the piece but how do you find yourself in a situ where you don't know the music for a wedding?...

The advance copy I was given merely said Lohengrin - Wagner to start and Mendelssohn Wedding March to finish.

The couple must have had a last minute change of mind; unless the office goofed and didn't make a correct note. They usually make a note of anything out of the ordinary.

I had asked to be part of the advisory team for planning these things but on the one occasion I was invited along, my contribution i.e playing extracts for the prospective punters to choose from, caused the evening to run on a little longer than usual so the invitation was never repeated. rolleyes.gif

No need for committee on these things, why not just meet brides yourself after Sunday morning service? You can then get it from the horse's mouth without any chance of a miscommunicated Bridal March occurring...

I'll suggest it.

I've always felt like an afterthought but they didn't half panic when I was a bit late once. biggrin.gif

Quite easily in my case. The clergy know only to let me know the music if it's something out of the ordinary. It saves them emailing/phoning me to tell me the music for the wedding will be "Traditional In/Out. Hymns All things bright & beautiful and Lord of the dance". rolleyes.gif

Do you not routinely meet brides/couples on a 1:1 basis to discuss the music?

No. The clergy tell couples that I'm quite approachable (ha! tongue.gif) and to see me after a normal church service if they would like anything special for the ceremony. I warmly encourage the clergy to do this and they, in turn, warmly encourage the couples to see me to hear alternative music to the standard bridal/wedding marches. Unfortunately, most couples are quite happy with the bog-standard stuff.

Ah, well. It seems no one has heard of it or been asked to provide it; hopefully it will die a death - after all, it didn't even seem much like a march. It was pretty naff, in my unlearned opinion. smile.gif

I just wish people would give me fair warning of things like this.

Which is why meeting the bride/groom is the way to go. Even if they say 'we want to the bog standard stuff' you have heard it from their own lips with nearly 0% chance of a ###### up... smile.gif

You'd hope they'd leave the latter until the honeymoon.... rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif
