Hi everyone,

Last night i was on a website called 'supportoursoldiers' and it is a website that does exactly what is suggested in the title.... it provides support from writing letters of support to the soldiers to sending them out parcels of goodies. I know these are very much appreciated as my brother has been able to tell us that himself.

However, there are many fundraising events and it is possible to hold your own to raise money for them to carry on supporting. They provide merchandise etc for the events and i've been thinking it is something i would like to do. I am also interested in doing one for the 'help for heroes' campaign.

However, i am still in the should i or shouldn't i stage... I think it could be quite a challenge but one that i would be pleased with achieving at the end. Should i go for it?

Also, does anyone have any ideas for fundraising events that I could hold?
The most obvious would be a quiz night or something along those lines.

Sophie.

Anything that involves making money for good charities I feel is always worth going for Soph. smile.gif

I guess i could always try and I havent lost anything if it doesnt work have i?

I've been thinking about it today and I've thought about getting a group of people together who would be willing to help me organise it and i've got a venue in mind etc.

I thought about it being a musical thing Barry, I just aren't sure i'll be able to make anything like that work sad.gif

For fundraising, why don't you do something Musical like Barri-clari suggests. You could put on a concert in your town to raise money, and have a raffle etc. Hiring the building would be a little pricey, so perhaps you could ask the owners if you could have it for free as their contribution to the charity. With performers, you could ask lots of local teachers who perform, or get their more advanced pupils to come along and play. You could ask local bands as well.

Hope this helps! smile.gif

Yeah my original thought was to put on a concert of some sort, but I just arent sure i'd be able to get that sorted. My original thought as I said was something like a quiz night... as I think that would be easier to arrange.
I'm still only in the thinking about it stage at the moment.... I think i'd like to arrange something though. unsure.gif

I seem to find myself involved in a quite a lot of fundraising events and one thing I've noticed over the past year is that because there are so many pulls on people's money, you have to do something really creative to get them to part with it. I run a series of lunchtime recitals in town during the summer months - last year we were raising £40-£50 a go, and this year this has been down to £10-£20. In the autumn we held a 24-hour music marathon at church - it was something different and it got a lot of publicity - around £1,600 was raised just in those 24 hours alone.

Be creative!

David

Heyy everyone,
Haven't posted in a while for one reason or other... so here goes.

My brother is out in Afghanistan at the moment serving with the Grenadier guards.

However, me and my brother's girlfriend have decided we want to raise money for our troops... his girlfriend has a meeting with the headteacher of her daughters school to see about something like a sponsored skip, then we are going to try and come up with some sort of event.....

Again, tips and idea's would be welcomed :-).

Thanks everyone, hope that you're all well xx

Sounds like a good start Soph : have you decided what sort of other event you want to do yet? Something musical/artistic/sporty?... smile.gif
