Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a correspondence course for Grade 6-8? Alternatively a teacher in the Devon/Somerset area?!

Thanks

A BIG welcome flte, welcome.gif

Sorry can't help you regarding a teacher in the Devon/Somerset area. If you hear of any correspondence courses for G6-8 I would be interested.

I've started working on G6 Theory and am trying to read slowly through the books, writing out 'Figured Basses' at the moment. wacko.gif

Many forum members are very helpful and informative here, so if you need anything particular explaining either use the search facility or post your question and I'm sure they will try to help. smile.gif

Good Luck !! tongue.gif tongue.gif

Sorry I can't help either. I'm just sending you some sympathy.
I've also been looking for theory lesssons and so far all I've found is an evening class in Stoke on Trent and an OU course.

I did start studying G6 theory with someone long distance at the recommendation of someone on this forum a few years ago. In the end I found that it didn't suit me at all, but I will have a look and see if I still have his information.

I wish I could remember who told me about him. It might be worth doing a search.

That said, he was not a young man, there is no guarantee he would be doing it any more.

If you mean John Fitzpatrick (http://www.musictheorytuition.co.uk/) then yes he is still teaching, as he's teaching me at the moment. smile.gif I would certainly recommend him, although distance learning doesn't work well for everyone (he gave me two free lessons when I started so I could see if it was right for me). I've found correspondence tuition much better than when I was having face-to-face lessons for grades 1-5, and also slightly cheaper. I think doing theory by post is a good way to do it, as then it forces you to be precise with your answers as you can't go to your lesson and say "well actually I meant this...", you have to write it down as you would in the exam.

I'm in Dorset - which is probably of no help at all. However, I could organise to give you a correspondence course, if you wished.
