I looked and could not find anything like this done before unsure.gif

So what do you think is the most musical city (or town) in the world.
I am thinking mainly of classical music but if you feel like drifting off go ahead smile.gif
I would go for Leipzig as the most musical city.
What about you all?
Solari
Surely New Orleans would be in the running?
Hurley
Maybe Nashville.
fsharpminor
London by a mile
Gorf
I wonder how you are measuring the most musical city?

Number of people playing an instrument?
Number of people playing MP3 players on the public transport system (and annoying others)?
Number of professional performances?

Perhaps Vienna?

Trouble is, for the varied resources that catch-all term "music" might command - you simply need a biiiiiig city with lots of money attached. That means little cities haven't a hope - Edinburgh for instance, does a major international festival every year, but for the other months it is far more limited in scope.

I hate London, but have to admit it's big enough to have space for lots of sorts of music, and hosts them well...

Berlin is good, and size for size, Munich and Cologne both seemed to have a lot going for them when I lived there.

Well here's an interesting survey of UK venues carried out by the PRS, based on number of public performances:

Of course the South Bank at no. 1 is a massive cheat as it's actually 4 separate venues.

Delighted to see RNCM at 5. biggrin.gif

Manchester is a much underrated musical city smile.gif

Some people of a certain age would likely plump for Liverpool! My personal choice is Vienna - must visit it one day...

No surprise that our existing venue for concerts in Leeds doesn't even make the top 100 sad.gif mad.gif
