Hello everybody.

My name is John and, after reading and very much enjoying these fora for a little while since signing up to broadband, I've finally plucked up the courage to join. I hope I'm posting this correctly and not making too much of a mess of my first post!

By way of introduction, here's a bit of information about me which I hope won't be too boring. I caught the music bug early in life when my parents sent me away from home to be a boarder at a Cathedral song-school, where I became a choirboy. I took to this instantly - apparently I'd sing to myself even when I was a very young lad and had barely learnt to talk - and soon started taking piano lessons at the song-school too. It was a totally new world. I loved it and am very grateful to my parents for their giving me such an introduction to the wonderful world of music at such a young age. Later on I studied singing and piano at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and after that at Trinity College of Music in London. I've played various instruments in my time, but playing the piano and singing have repeatedly been among my main loves in life.

Having taken early retirement after working for several years as Head of Music at a well-known school a little while ago, I'm delighting in having opportunities to enjoy making music with friends at leisure, and in being able to teach a small and select handful of promising and rewarding students without all of the rigmarole of lesson planning and inter-departmental meetings. It's lovely just being able to make music again.

I'm very much looking forward to getting to know people on these fora. Thank you for reading my introduction.

Best wishes,

John. smile.gif

Welcome John! what a great start to your musical life. I am so envious - there weren't girls' choirs in my day like there are nowadays! I only found opportunities once I'd grown up.

I do sing in a choir now and we do cathedral-type repertoire so better late than never.

Gosh...so many newbies! party1.gif

Hello John and welcome to the forum. smile.gif I'm trying my best to get my voice better than it is (I don't have a tutor, so I'm going it alone). I'm always interested in what the singers among us have to say. Looking forward to your input.

By the way, there seems to be great interest in inside leg measurements at the moment! If you include yours in your signature (if you need help with a signature, feel free to ask or check out the FAQ's!) you'll make a lot of ladies very happy I'm sure (29-31 inches seems the most popular! wink.gif )

See you around. smile.gif

Thank you everybody for such a lovely, warm welcome and for making me feel at home.

There certainly seem to be some fun characters around here who I think I'll enjoy getting to know. I don't know about posting my inside leg measurements until I've got to know people a bit better. Is it something which people tend to do around here?

I've been enjoying reading some of the writing people put in blue print at the bottom of their posts, which I'd not been able to read before I registered. Some are quite funny. I've tried to do it myself, but cant find out how to. Could anybody help, please?

Once again, thanks to one and all for making me feel so welcome. Its appreciated.

John.

Only when tempted to do so by the more brazen characters around here rolleyes.gif I would never dream of suggesting it myself whistling.gif biggrin.gif

Go to My Controls at the top of the page and scroll down the list at the left hand side until you see Edit Signature. Look forward to seeing what you write biggrin.gif
