My name is John and, after reading and very much enjoying these fora for a little while since signing up to broadband, I've finally plucked up the courage to join. I hope I'm posting this correctly and not making too much of a mess of my first post!
By way of introduction, here's a bit of information about me which I hope won't be too boring. I caught the music bug early in life when my parents sent me away from home to be a boarder at a Cathedral song-school, where I became a choirboy. I took to this instantly - apparently I'd sing to myself even when I was a very young lad and had barely learnt to talk - and soon started taking piano lessons at the song-school too. It was a totally new world. I loved it and am very grateful to my parents for their giving me such an introduction to the wonderful world of music at such a young age. Later on I studied singing and piano at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and after that at Trinity College of Music in London. I've played various instruments in my time, but playing the piano and singing have repeatedly been among my main loves in life.
Having taken early retirement after working for several years as Head of Music at a well-known school a little while ago, I'm delighting in having opportunities to enjoy making music with friends at leisure, and in being able to teach a small and select handful of promising and rewarding students without all of the rigmarole of lesson planning and inter-departmental meetings. It's lovely just being able to make music again.
I'm very much looking forward to getting to know people on these fora. Thank you for reading my introduction.
Best wishes,
John.
