Wondering how the scoring actually works... Does one earn points on the practical exam for playing the piece correctly? Or, instead, do we start out with 30 points and each error is a deduction of a few points? If you hit a wrong note, does that lose you a few points?

Curious about any insights anyone has. Thanks.

The Associated Board start marking from the pass mark, and they add or deduct marks accordingly. smile.gif

Actually, you get 0 for not attempting to play anything. I heard that they have to give you 10/30 (or a third, for the other sections) for any kind of attempt, though, whatever it sounds like! laugh.gif (You'll have to check that, I'm not sure if that's right or not...)

The marking criteria in the booklet sbhoa has linked to are worth having a look at, they are quite useful (and reassuring in some cases!)

Some examiners stick to them more closely/obviously than others but they are a great guide/starting point for looking at what is expected.
