Full Version: Proper Music On Bbc Television

I notice that the incidental music on BBC televison has improved recently.

The new football season has been heralded with music from Faure's Requiem. This is hardly unique, but it makes a change from Nessun Dorma or Zadok the Priest.

Better still, the Bobby Robson doccumentry on Monday was accompanied by snippets from Elgar's Dream of Gerontius, (one of my personal favourites), which is rarely, if ever broadcast.

I know these are only snippets, but if the music becomes more popular it can only be a good thing.

I've noticed this too - I can't remember what piece it was, but I remember saying to my dad how wonderful the music was on a certain programme the other night. It makes me want to watch them more! And yes, I do hope it popularises the music further too.

(I used to hate when my brother was watching sport and Zadok the Priest would be playing... Long may it stay away!)

If it was Monday night it may have been Gerontius, although I doubt if many people would know it, as it is so rarlely broadcast. The problem is that it cannot be broken down into small enough sections to play between advertisemnts on Classic FM. mellow.gif

Don't watch Champion's League football then smile.gif They use the music to Zadok the Priest albeit set with different words, sung in a mix of French, German and English as their 'anthem'

Oh, I'm sure you miss it really, now you can sing along (translations in brackets):

Ce sont les meilleures équipes (Those are the best teams)
Sie sind die allerbesten Mannschaften (Those are the best teams)
The main event

Chorus:
Die Meister (The Champions)
Die Besten (The best)
Les Grandes Équipes (The biggest teams)
The Champions

Une grande réunion (A big gathering)
Eine große sportliche Veranstaltung (A big sports event)
The main event

Ils sont les meilleurs (They are the best)
Sie sind die Besten (They are the best)
These are the champions

Chorus: (repeat x2)
