Hi guys!

Now im gonna start singing and learning along with Brett Mannings "Singing success". I gave it a try a while back, but for some reason i stoped.

How long should i practise during a day or a week, without getting tired of it and at the same time get improvements?

Thank you guys for all help!

The fact that you have to ask this just means that there is no substitute for a real life teacher!

Caveat : singing pupil rather than teacher here.

Would very, very, very, very strongly recommend you get lessons from a real live singing teacher. You have only one voice. You don't want to damage it...

Hi clw,

sorry to appear a spoilsport, but you really can't learn to sing via a website. The guy has some super party tricks - but what songs do you know require more than 2 octaves? Think of learning how to change the engine in your car over the net, and you drop a spanner at the wrong time, and do some serious damage to the block - no problem, buy a new engine. Learn some exercises over the net, do them wrong and wreck your vocal folds - possible permanent damage.

The bottom line is that a singing teacher gives you feedback, and demonstrates what to do to achieve your aims. On line lessons cannot do this.

I must agree too although I am not familiar with this Singing Success method. Please find a teacher and a choir to join. Then you will see changes quite soon in your voice I expect.

I know a teacher would be ten times, better but i dont have the time. Im going to take lessons later on, couple of years maybe, but right know i have to practise by myself. What do you guys suggest me to do?

Thanks for all answers!

I know this might be unpopular, but my view is that if it is a case of either Brett Manning or nothing, the nothing would be of more benefit to you. If you go down that road and then take lessons in the future, it might be too late.

yeah okay. But what i dont understand is why people are saying that singing success is so bad and dumb when many of todays big artist uses it?

Willing to bet if it is used by people, it's used in conjuction with having a real live teacher.

I can't emphasise enough, please, please remember you have one voice, and if you strain it by using poor technique, attempting to wrongly copy from a DVD, you risk permanent damage. And you'll be so, so upset.

Thanks for answer!

I have know used it for the second time today. After ive done one lesson i really feel that my voice has more power and its easier to sing high notes. I got a little nervous yesterday when my voice felt i little tired, but as any other muscle who is not been trained before, its natural to feel like you have used it.

If i really feel improvments and my vocals doesnt hurt, do you really feel like i should stop even then?

Btw, im very conscious about my voice, and im gonna stop of it really hurst!

Thank you guys again! you are very helpful!

Alarm bells! This needs supervision.

... that your voice normally shouldn't tire if you do things right - it should actually make you able to sing longer.

as for "i don't have time" - in my experience that's not really an excuse if you really want something. you have the time to practise manning's stuff, to write in forums, probably to watch tv and do numerous other things that you could quite easily fill with real singing lessons. the manning-program is also quite expensive (roundabout $200). if you invest that type of money in 3 or 4 lessons with a good teacher, you will probably learn more.

unlike others, i am not completely opposed to his system for certain styles (it is just a cleverly marketed product of things other people have been teaching for years).
i think it should at the start be used under supervision though until you actually know what you are doing.

So do you mean if you dont have the time or the money, you should just quit singing? I really dont know what to do. There are people who have succeed with this program, but at the same time i dont feel totaly safe. Im 17, so getting money for lessons is a little problem. I really think this sucks, cause a really want to be able to sing better. I have been playing guitar for ages and i write my own song, so i feel like this is necesarry and singing is one of my greates passions.

No, of course not. I know there are ways however to make things happen if you are commited enough, because I've done it myself. It's just how I feel about "not having time or money", when the real problems are often just different priorities. That's completely legitimate, but there is no progress without effort - without effort, you'll never get anywhere. I don't know your personal circumstances of course, so please don't take this personally.

I didn't come from a wealthy family, money was always short. I gave language lessons/support to other students from the age of 14 to finance my violin lessons at that time. I worked as a papergirl, I worked in a shop, later on in a callcentre. I know it's not easy, but it's possible. If you really want something, you will do everything to make it possible - that's all I say.
You might still not be able to afford weekly lessons, but you might also want to reconsider what is really important to you, what your current spending habits are and where you could save money. When I had the choice between a new pair of jeans or a music lesson, I didn't have to think for a second where the money would go. If I had to make a choice between meeting friends or going to a lesson/practising, I would most of the time pick the lesson/practise - not that I say it's always the best choice, but that's how I felt at that time. wink.gif

Thanks for you answer!

I didnt take it personal:) I know what you mean and understand it. I come from an very healty familfiy. Its not that i dont afford to take a lesson or two, its more that its very expensive to have lessons over a long period of time. The only thing ifm scared of is that there is a possibility that my voice can take damage if i do something wrong to long. Etc, i pfractised yesterday for the first time. my voice got a little soar i guess you can call it. Then i practised this mornifng. But now im feeling good. Its messing me up:)
