Well I made it to summer school and coped very well all week. It was only on Friday morning that I cracked during the last lecture and I think that was because the stress of the week was relaxing and I hadn't slept well all week so very tired.

The summer school was much better than I could ever have hoped for, and I made some fantastic new friends that I hope to keep in touch with.

I was very brave and took my recorder along, I hadn't played a recorder for more than 40 years and then I was only self taught. I joined an ensemble and certainly gave the tutor something to think about! particularly when myself and another girl got the giggles, tutor looked very serious and wanted to move on, that only made us worse. We managed to perform in the concert though, for me this was another first!

The tutors were all fantastic and in particular the 2 main tutors that I had for the week. I had let the first tutor know about my sister and she had passed the information on the next tutor and they both took me under their wing and really looked after me.

I would recommend the A214 to anyone that is interested in theory, next year is the last year it will be running, the summer school is out of this world, very intense but so much fun.

I joined in the choir, I am a suprano, but the notes were so high it was frightening.

Although there will be a substitute course coming in 2011 there wont be a summer school, so last chance!!!

So glad you had such a great time biggrin.gif I missed all of the summer school experiences for my OU degree as my kids were too young to leave so I got excusal, but they sound great.

I'll second ET's recommendation for the course (it is also ab substitute for g6 theory for the teaching dip!)

Don't worry about the cracking at the end ET, that's all part of the healing process, I very much doubt it'll be the last time but they will get fewer and farther between.thereThere.gif

Glad you had such a good time, ET, and that you managed to cope so soon after your sad loss.

Glad you had a lovely time, ET! I thought you would. smile.gif

The choir sang "The Heavens Are Telling" when I was there! Sounded lovely, and I will remember it for a long time to come. The whole experience was wonderful.

I'm sure you'll keep in touch with your new friends. I did my course in 2004, and still get the occassional e-mail and calls from friends I met in Durham.

All the best for the remainder of the course. party1.gif

Hello,

As an Open University student myself I was wondering where it was held?

I've been to Summer Schools in Nottingham and Bath and the Open University Student Association Conference 2009 at Warwick so feel I have been doing the grand tour. Oh and I forgot the M500 - The Maths Society revision weekend at Aston.

I did the course in 2005 it was in Durham then too so it seems that's the usual. Amazing week and got to play with some brilliant brass players. smile.gif

We sang: Insanae et vanae curae (you can hear it on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSYK5JHgRnA)
As Torrents in summer
Soul of the World by Purcell - the notes were so high in here!
Hallelujah (Handel)
Abschied vom Wald) Mendelssohn

My favourite were the Latin, German and As Torrents in Summer
