Forums > ABRSM > Diplomas

Hi

I am starting preparing my programme notes for my October LRSM, having taken my DipABRSM last June. I would be very interested to glean opinions on what you feel should be the key points of difference / advancement between the two levels of programme notes.

I have studied the guidelines but always find people's opinions on the forum a great help.

I guess, phrased another way .. what should my LRSM notes contain or focus on that my Dip notes probably didn't

thanks in advance

Basically the LRSM notes can be more technical (using appropriate technical language) and more analytical in flavour. The Dip notes would have been more general and aimed at a lay audience.

I, too, am really interested in knowing the difference between the program notes required for LRSM and those for Diploma. I'm just not understanding what the technical language would consist of. Should I be writing completely different comments or will the ideas be the same but stated in more technical language? Below is a quote from my Diploma Program Notes. Seems to me that the idea is stated in layman terms, except for the inclusion of the word 'appegiated'. At LRSM level would one not make a comment such as this or, the idea is OK but the language is too simple. Help!!

Sonatas K208 and K209 contrast in mood and tempo. K.208, marked cantabile, reflects Scarlatti’s life in Italy, where opera was important. The melody line suggests the human singing voice, with breaks in the melody where a singer would naturally breathe. K209 is suggestive of a jota, a Spanish Dance is 3/8 time, with clusters of appegiated notes suggesting the sound of the Spanish guitar.

Thanks.

Is 'appegiated' a word? *runs off to dictionary corner*
