What's everyone up to on the clarinet at the moment?
I'm learning Gershwin's 'I Got Rhythm' from Concert pieces for Clarinet (Harris/Johnson). One of my friends can play the original on the piano. I want to one day, but I'm not quite at that standard yet! I'm also working on two of the Grade 5 pieces - Tarantella (A piece) and Gut Reaction (which isn't in the book - an alternative B piece). My teacher wants me to do the exam this coming term.

I'm teaching I Got Rhythm to a pupil at the moment who just doesn't get it. She plays with very little emotion usually and this one really hasn't clicked but I will persevere after the summer holidays as I think it's a good piece! Also I like the Tarantella for grade 5. I've had a couple of pupils play it very well who I thought would struggle - it seems to fit under the fingers well.
At the moment I'm not really playing much (and not very happy with myself because of it!). I've got Le Tombeau de Ravel on the go and the Bax Sonata, because I'm not sure how I have never played it before! That's all when I'm not trying to find some good sax pieces for my Grade 8 pupils. My poor, neglected clarinet!
