It's obviously my age, but I can't see the point of rapping, dance, indie, garage etc. However, reggae was a really great era of music - superb beat, usually decent lyrics and a real melody.

When I'm on my own I nearly always listen to either classical, jazz, or blues. I enjoy other styles as well - some mainstream pop, hip-hop, electronic music, Indian music, and others - but don't usually listen to them when I'm on my own.

I listen to quite a wide variety of music! Aside from Classical, I mostly listen to jazz (Michael Buble in particular wub.gif ) and soft rock/indie type music, the favourite being a band called Elliot Minor. I can't stand it when people are narrow minded about music tastes, i.e. "you like CLASSICAL music?! Ew, why?!" RAGE.

Jazz, especially traditional jazz, blues and stride piano. Oscar Peterson, Dave Brubeck, Hank Jones and 'Fats' Waller are amongst my favourites. I am also very keen on 'light' music especially of the English variety.

George Shearing is another great favourite of mine.

I will listen to anything - I have to! (no guarantee of liking it though) Anything from Mozart (wub.gif) to Miles Davis (biggrin.gif) to 'Mary Mary Quite Contrary' ill.gif (I have a 5 year old sister). And anything in between.
I like classical and romantic music, and I love playing and listening to jazz and blues smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif I also quite like listening to baroque music, but find it impossible to play rolleyes.gif
As for pop, etc. etc., it really depends on the style. I don't like songs with screaming vocals, or excessively loud throbbing electric guitar, or stuff like that.

Music... - the Bob the Builder and Winnie the Pooh songs are great, but the Thomas the Tank Engine tune is infinitely better. tongue.gif Also, does anyone know the 'Old Bear' books and videos (I realise videos are probably old fashioned to some people already, and I'm only 14 biggrin.gif), and the song from that? laugh.gif

How does the 'Old Bear' tune go? I've never heard of it...only Rupert the Bear! tongue.gif

"Please read us a story Old Bear, we'll all gather round..." If you go to this page there's a link on it to listen to the song. smile.gif

As for Rupert Bear, there's a museum in Canterbury which has a special exhibit of him! My little sister loved it (the rest of us stayed in the main part of the museum, which is about the town's history). They also had a section on Bagpuss and friends! laugh.gif

Off topic, sorry all!

Me favourite types of music are world music, soul, old school rap (which is really funny and witty), electronica, classical (not so much Classical), drum and bass and reggae. If I'm at home on a Friday evening my first port of call is BBC4, and if there is nothing I fancy there I try BBC Radio 1, Tim Westwood - from the sublime to the ridiculous.

I agree with River that dance music needs to be appreciated with a different mindset from other music.

Discovering opera has been exciting and shocking for me because I never, ever thought I could possibly have an appreciation for it. But the combination of music, drama and poetry makes this my absolute favourite at the moment.

I absolutely love folk, particularly of the Irish variety. I tend to divide my playing time between that and classical. If it's got a good beat and you can dance to it...

I like most music! But especially (aside from classical) the music of Klaus Shultze. You wanna hear the Ballett series. No 1 is espiaclly good.
