Wow! Really enjoyed the performance of "Myself, I shall adore" from Semele. Any forumite own up to singing this in their career? I'm not familiar with the score, so don't know whether Handel put in all the runs and grace notes or whether they were embellishments. Either way, a superb rendition!

I'm still feeling overwhelmed by the gorgeous oboe sounds from the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. I may have to stick something atonal and clarinetty on fast before an unhealthy obsession starts!

Carolyn Sampson was absolutely amazing in "Myself I shall adore". That aria is so difficult, and she made it seem so easy. For me, it was the highlight of the programme, although I agree with CJB that the oboes sounded wonderful.

I wish they'd put more Proms on BBC2; we don't have BBC4, and it's not the same on radio. I do think seeing the performer adds a lot - all the posturing with the mirror, and that inspired sigh towards the end, will stay in my memory for a long time.

We did Semele with the local opera company a year ago. Brought back all sorts of very happy memories... Some great bits for Chorus in it too wub.gif

Yes, it was great fun! Possibly a little too florid in its decoration but superb singing and acting and just right for that setting. I loved it!
