Just to warn you about banking scams...
Over the past few weeks me and my friends have had about 3 emails from various 'banks' and building socierties claiming that i need to update our information. Obviously, this is a scam, because I dont bank with anyone except one bank, from whom i've not had any emails. These appear legitimate, because of the email adress they come from, but if you hover over the link, you can see that is it actually hosted off another website.

Thanks for the info!

For some reason there seems to be a new wave of all this rubbish at the moment. It's sad that so many people fall for it sad.gif I must admit to being a fan of http://www.419eater.com though biggrin.gif

Aye, it's George Agbgtkwengo or however you spell it. The guy behind that series is a genius; a guy I was talking to while on jury service with has met him as he works in an advertising firm. Apparently the "fonejacker" is Iranian or something?

That would make sense if true as the Iranian guys I've worked with tend to be a bit loopy on the humour front smile.gif

also knowing just sort code and account number enables one to deposit money but to withdraw it. To withdraw money they would need their bank card and pin or id such as passport and signature.

His mental age is around 11, I'm not sure about his actual age... rolleyes.gif

You can actually set up a direct debit with those details, as Jeremy Clarkson found out (much to his embarassment) after publishing his details in a newspaper wink.gif

Also, the scammers get these details and then use social engineering techniques to extract other information from you such as D.O.B., name, address and so forth to enable them to carry out their dubious activities.

These emails have been around for a ocuple of years and we got more than our fairshare where I worked.

The banks have email addresses where these can be forwarded to. They are supposed ot investigate them but who knows what really happens.

Usually they get fake sites taken offline by the service provider that is hosting it. I presume where possible, legal action is pursued but that's not always going to be possible when it's hosted in some dodgy uncooperative country smile.gif
