The Old Lady
Last Thursday evening, I was gardening. I felt a couple of bites on my foot. Washing my feet before bed, they looked small and insignificant.
I awoke at 6 am on Friday itching like crazy, so went down stairs to get an anti histamine.
By 9am, my foot was a bit swollen, so I went to the Pharmacy for more stuff.
LIttle Jen and I went to see Gerald, Mrs Gerald and their grand children. Jen played with the children and they had a great time. tongue.gif
After playing flutes for a while, my foot blew up, and I was made to sit down with said foot on a stool whilst we had lunch. I was careful NOT to take the sandal off.
When we got home, I did take it off and made my shopping list for Sainsbury's. Kate was helping me, and when we went , not a shoe in the house fitted me ohmy.gif
I had to go shopping in my slippers. blush.gif How embarrassing is that? blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif rolleyes.gif
It was huge all Saturday I could stick a finger in an inch and it stayed down, and I had to use old fashioned Piriton. Now it is almost back to normal, but Basil has 3 on his arms and is moaning. rolleyes.gif
Bloomin insects. mad.gif
Bev.

Oh dear, that's awful, I wonder what they were sad.gif

Sorry but that really made me laugh ph34r.gif And I've got visions of you having to perform at a stately home with your slippers on laugh.gif

I've driven my sister down to the shops when she's been in her pyjamas before... I felt quite embarassed.

I had to go to my GP yesterday because my right foot and leg are swollen like the Elephant Mans'! (No comments please! tongue.gif ) It's probably due to my back problem and the way I'm now walking. I have trouble getting my shoes on, and have had to buy two pairs of shoes...one a size larger than the other! All good fun....not! rolleyes.gif

I went to work once in my slippers...I overlaid and rushed out the door before I remembered to put my shoes on! My boss made me go and buy a suitable pair of shoes for the rest of the shift! Being a manager in her slippers wasn't befitting to the role, apparently! laugh.gif laugh.gif

I hope your swelling goes down soon, Bev x

Dear Bev, it's very kind of you to want to cheer us up, but how could anyone possibly laugh at your predicament? It sounds horrendous! sad.gif So pleased your poor foot is nearly back to normal - insects are a right nuisance!

As for DC, once I'd suffered myself, I realised that back problems, the stuff of much amusement in comedy acts, are no joke at all. I do hope your leg resumes a more normal shape before too long.

Having said that, your story did remind me of a visit to relatives a few years ago ago. We went to a small animal farm with their two sons, and when we arrived we realised that the younger boy, aged about 6 at the time, had come in his slippers! I suppose you can get away with it at that age, but his mum was not amused! biggrin.gif

If you're an ugly sister, can you ask Cinders what she's doing tonight for me? biggrin.gif

Many years ago, when I was young and foolish, I drove my younger sister to school clad in pyjamas, slippers and overcoat. And ran out of petrol.... blush.gif

It was the shopping trip I though you all might be amused at. laugh.gif All I needed was "Hilda Ogden" head scarf and a fag out the corner of my mouth. tongue.gif rolleyes.gif

Thank you. Alas, I fear my legs have never been the shape I would like them to be! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif rolleyes.gif

Back problem jokes I can just about cope with...seeing people on TV hurled downstairs and walking away without a scratch is quite another...... ph34r.gif

*Sorry Bev..off topic! tongue.gif *

No problem Daisy tongue.gif
Hope your leg is better soon. blink.gif

No one would bat an eyelid around here as people can be seen regularly parading the streets in their PJ's. They go shopping, take the children to school as if it's quite the thing to do. The slippers would set a new fashion trend laugh.gif

That was the best thing about being in hospital for a week - because I was rushed in, I only had the clothes I was wearing, which my mum took home to wash. From then on I only had pyjamas, so when they were trying to encourage me to start moving again, they had me walk to the front door in my pyjamas. biggrin.gif

Well presumably you are not called The Old Lady for nothing tongue.gif . I bet you got some funny looks in the shop...did Kate disown you? I would have done biggrin.gif .

OK, joking apart, the poor foot was already looking quite sorry for itself when the time came for Bev to leave our house and I was really concerned that she might run into heavy traffic round the road works on the M40 and have to use the clutch a lot. I did offer to drive her home, but then someone would have had to have driven me back wacko.gif . I am glad the worst seems to be over now, though.

I also offered to start a thread about this incident, but Bev said she would do it. Now I know why - she is trying to get more votes for being the Most Intriguing Thread starter. Don't encourage her tongue.gif .

Sorry to read about your back DC and I hope that eases soon for you.

katyjay
Sorry to hear about your foot, Bev. Hope it goes down to normal again soon.

I thought you were supposed to be a friend too!!!
Suppose you are getting your own back after Mrs Gerald and I made plans. tongue.gif wacko.gif

Mrs Gerald and I are becoming very good friends, and she suggested that next time I go there with the children, Gerald takes the kids to the castle, and Mrs G and I go shoe shopping in the very nice shoe shops in Kenilworth. Isn't she lovely?? Gerald's eyes were as large as saucers in this conversation laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

I'm glad your foot's better smile.gif My sister-in-law once collected her daughter from her v. elitist private school in a wetsuit because she'd been wind-surfing and was running late. She got down-the-nose looks from the mothers, but I would imagine very different looks from the fathers and she looks great in a wetsuit laugh.gif

I think the shoe shopping sounds an excellent idea biggrin.gif
The Old Lady
Yes, I bet it was jealousy that prompted the evil looks. laugh.gif
Foot's almost better, but poor Basil is hobbling now. At least he can get shoes on though.

Friendship as in coming 3rd in Best Couple award doesn't extend to me going out with you in your slippers tongue.gif .

Now don't you start! I have enough problem with Mrs G and Bev, and the last idea they dreamed up between them cost me the equivalent of another new flute laugh.gif . We have a rule in our house - for every new pair of shoes bought, two pairs have to go to charity biggrin.gif . I wrote charity because none of them ever get worn out, there are so many.....

Glad the foot is better. Basil hobbling? I thought you said he was bitten on the arm??? I hope it doesn't interfere with his golf action. He might be a bit upset if it does.

The Old Lady
3 bites. He had to go one better, being a man. now he has 2 on his leg. sad.gif

I was going to ask if they were man-bites rolleyes.gif but it's probably not a matter for humour ph34r.gif

I've never met Mrs Gedall but somehow I can just picture Mrs G and you plotting planning a shopping expedition biggrin.gif
