Hi all,

I recently realised with relative horror that a piece I am due to play (as part of http://www.equinoxsax.org) featured slap tonguing....horror of horrors!!!

So, sfter a brief panic, I set about to conquer the task in hand, and with the help of good old you tube, I was soon achieving something resembling slap tonguing. I am definately getting the reed to suction to the mouthpiece and release with a pop, however because I am merely sucking the air rather than exhaling I'm not getting a particularly loud sound.

has anyone on else had a similar problem? If so, did you overcome it?

All advice welcome!

p.s I quickly cottoned on to using a synthetic reed after destroying 2 in a matter of minutes! happy.gif

Slap tonguing isn't something I have any great competency in - it's something I've never had to do.

I have heard Rob Buckland describe and demonstrate it though - he explains the action as "as though you're trying to spit out the seeds from raspberry jam". That way you get the blowing out as well as the suction at the same time.
