Hello,
I am wanting to go to Peter Symonds college next year to study. One of the courses I've looked in to is the Hampshire Specialist Music Course (specialist performance course). Does anyone know how this course is viewed by uni s or conservatories? I am grade 8 dist. classical guitar and grade 8 bass. Also for the audition I will have to play "two different instruments", (this may sound stupid) - will the classical guitar and electric bass be seen as two different instruments?
Thanks in advance!

Hey!
i go to peter symonds, winchester, and currently on the specialist hsmc too.
the course is highly regarded, the head of wind from RNCM was so impressed he came down and gave us a talk.
Many people get offers to oxbridge also...

I'm on the course too. Those two instruments should be fine, although there is a strong focus on classical music. However this was principally imposed by the old head of music who retired last term. To my knowledge there hasn't been a classical guitarist on the course for a good few years so I'm sure they'll be keen to try new ensemble pieces etc. This year two students have gone to RCM and one to Cambridge - if you're looking at Oxbridge the guidance given by the college is good and intake is high. At least one music student is accepted every year. There are also connections with most UK conservatoires. So it's definitely worth a shot!
