I'd have to be something that never played in tune

A bassoon

My piano teacher once asked me what I would call a group of bassoons (i.e. the collective noun, like a flock of sheep or a pack of wolves). I immediately said 'a racket(t)'.

As for being an instrument for the day... probably a trumpet or sax, so I could play in jazz bands all the time. And be very loud and noticable, like laura-clarinet said.

I'm normally very quiet so I love playing any of my instruments
fortissimo (only when it's marked, of course!).
