I have an electronic Yamaha YPG-235.
Solari
Yamaha CLP-270 digital.

It does the job and has the best sound IMO of the CLP range at the time. I agonised for months trying out different digitals before buying it.

Bechstein - and I love it wub.gif

There another thread on this subject here smile.gif

Everyone's Pianos

I have just bought a Silent U1, 11 years old. At the moment I'm a bit like all the gear and no idea!!

Hopefully this outlay will eventually be justified... I hope. blush.gif

Yamaha U3 Silent - perfect for both teaching and for me to practice with headphones so that I don't disturb my neighbour in the basement below me.

After 9 years of practising with the name staring me right in the face, I still couldn't tell you what make my upright is. ph34r.gif My digital is a Roland FP7 though.

My dreams feature a Bluthner baby Model 10 in flame mahogany. All I need is £40k and somewhere to put it. sad.gif

Early Learning Centre's 'My First Piano'.

It has a subtle red plastic finish, lights that flash when you play the keys, and a microphone attachment. These stylish extras come at the cost of sound quality; it has to be said that the tone is a touch artificial.

The one which works is a Laurence and Nash, built by a friend of my husband's, and with a little bit of paper inside it, which is a copy of a letter from Alfred Brendel to Alastair Laurence to tell him how good his upright pianos are biggrin.gif.

The one which doesn't work is the Longman and Broderip square piano - it has a dearth of strings, but I am assured that it will acquire some at some point. It is a Project In Hand....

The one which isn't a piano is a harpsichord, and there is some sort of Yamaha keyboard upstairs but it never sees the light of day as it lives in a teenager's room...

Do you know Sarah, I had it in my mind that you have a Welmar! That's because my piano is a Welmar, and someone I thought was you had said they had one too. So if it's not you, who is it? unsure.gif
fsharpminor
A British piano George Rogers, bought new in the late 70's, shortly before Yamaha bought them and closed them down (as they have with many others)

When I checked, it was a Welmar. I've probably answered several of this type of threads before and promptly forgotten the make after each time. ph34r.gif All I can remember normally is that it starts with 'W' because I used to have to look for middle C under the W lol. biggrin.gif

Just acquired a Steck 5'6 grand which is a bit tatty but hopefully will prove fairly sound. Looks fab.

This is in addition to my Clavinova which is now relegated to the sapare room for late night practise duty.

I have a Casio WK110 76-key 'piano style keyboard' - it's not particularly fancy but it plays. I would absolutely love a proper piano, or even a nice digital piano, but neither are within my means at the moment. Maybe in a few years when my husband's a lawyer and making loads of money he'll buy me a pretty baby grand. smile.gif
Danemann
I have a 30 year old - or there abouts - Danemann ( hence the name ) 5'2" grand. She is lovely!!

I have a Bentley, short keyboard though so it's a bit annoying when you want to play high or low and run out of keys... *sigh*

Is that a Piano or some sort of keyboard? Excuse my ignorance?

I know the feeling, I try playing my niece's keyboard and run out of keys (instead of fingers, for a change!) biggrin.gif

I have a Technics digital piano, it's about 8 years old now!

We had a Bentley before our Kawai K6. It had a full size keyboard though. It was made in 1950 and the tuner once told me it was just about the last of the good ones they built. Unfortunately it had cracks inthe soundboard and wouldn't stay in tune. It also didn't have a great range of dynamics and the action wasn't wonderful either. I think smaller ones came in in the 60's for small modern houses, but I might be wrong. (I've also heard short keyboard pianos referred to as "cottage "pianos.)

oh that's interesting, I always wondered why they didn't just make it with all the keys, it does seem a bit pointless with bits missing at each end! Still my favourite piano to play though, even though it's not actually that great. Suppose it's always like that with your own piano though!

I have just bought an Irmler 5'3" baby grand to replace my Clavinova CLP 270 which has served me well the last 8 years. My frustrations and our purse strings suddenly came together at an opportune moment! The Clavinova still works perfectly well but has been relegated to the outside office as there isn't room in the house for both! (which is a shame as it would be useful for evening practice).

Hi Solari

I've been pretty busy recently with work (which is when I would normally post!). After much debate with the mrs, I managed to railroad, I mean persuade, her into letting me have a decent piano, and for it to be set up downstairs, where I will have much more opportunity to play in the typical parents schedule of managing to grab 2 minutes to yourself every now and again. We went for a CLP320 in dark rosewood. The entry level model will see me for a few years I reckon. mrs still isn't too happy about the styling, the higher models certainly look better. To get the piano, I've had to strike a deal - a new telly. I was firmly of the view that the old one was fine, even though you had to wind it up, and it only showed silent movies. I think we'll now have to get one of those new fangled ones that are as big as an aircraft hanger.

I tried quite a few digitals, and I found I liked yamaha the best. The ADP was better than most others I tried in the same or even higher price range. Entry level clav was definetly a step up, a much richer sound.

arrives in a few weeks. can't wait

The 320 will do you well wink.gif I might have recommended getting a 270 second hand but they still seem to be very pricey. Yamaha only do spare parts for 4 years, officially, so you'll be ok.

How is the Ecossaise coming along? smile.gif I did mean to PM you after our lunch but got side tracked! It was nice to meet the King of Tax smile.gif
Mad Tom
As this seems to have become a discussion of the relative merits of various electric pianos, who else has tried the new Roland-V piano. It does not use samples. It completely synthesizes the sound based on a mathematical model of how a real piano creates sound. I tried one in the local 'Clavis' showroom (I had gone to see if they had the new Yamaha GB1KS - the budget Yamaha baby grand with added silent system). The Roland is amazing. It does real pedal effects for one thing. And the feel of the keys and the action is very good too. You can even emulate your favourite piano, includig historic pianos, and vary the tone by changing the hardness of the felts!

Even so, after half an hour of acclimatisation, the feel is still slightly lacking compared to an acoustic grand, and there is still atouch of artificiality about the sound. But it is a fine instrument in its own right, it is not too heavy to take to a gig, and it would be a lot better than an out-of-tune old upright. I expect rock, pop, jazz performers are going to make this a big commercial success.

I'd be very interested to hear what anyone else thinks of it.
