Hello people
I've come for inspiration...

I came off my bicycle 3 weeks ago and mashed myself up a bit so wasn't up for much practice. Then I went away for 9 days until last Sunday. When I got back I couldn't wait to play my instruments again. All was going well but my fingers and stamina have really suffered and I just feel like I "Can't do it anymore". I'm getting quite cross as I just feel too tired to practice but haven't done in a couple of days as it was GCSE results yesterday so spent the day partaying after the envelope-opening.

However, I really know that I NEED to practice, especially as I want to be able to go back to my teachers in 1.5weeks' time and actually seem to have improved over my extended summer break...HELP!

My 'cello has suffered the least for some reason, probably because I don't have an exam coming up. Piano, on the other hand...scales which were getting pretty good are going to pot and pieces just don't have the energy that they did.
Should I stop worrying and hope that it'll all come back, especially when school and lessons re-start? Or is there something wrong that I need to 'fix'?
ARGH! You may have figured I'm quite angry with myself here mad.gif . (sorry for venting on the forums.)

Thanks for reading this far if you have done - appreciated.

Love a very frustrated Piello.

Why don't you try just and practice each day, even if it's not for that long, or take a piece each day? And then maybe some scales another day?

I'm sorry Piello but unfortunately it would take a miracle for it all to just suddenly come back. sad.gif

I'm sure you'll get through it all, and take your time and go through each piece.

Good luck!

Piello, I'm sure it won't take too long to come back if you put the practice in and have a bit of patience with yourself. It's inevitable that your pieces will deteriorate after 3 weeks without practice, but even 3 or 4 days of good practice will make a lot of difference. The problem comes when you lose heart and stop practising!

Just get stuck in and you'll soon be enjoying yourself again. smile.gif

Play something you really love purely for pleasure even if its very simple and no challenge. I always do that if I'm trying to get back to work after a break. It reminds me why I play and that the hard work is worth it.!

It willl come back... I'd been there myself... I'd found the best way is to just do it and practise. Worrying just wastes energy.

Nowhere near on the same level, but I'm finding that the more stuff I try that I'm *supposed* to be doing, the less motivated I am sad.gif

I'm taking a break after Grade 3.

Thanks so much for the replies. I'll give it another shot today when my hands have warmed up smile.gif

Go easy on yourself Piello, its hard work (physically and mentally) recovering from a "mashing" so start with the easy and the fun and very gradually add in the more challenging work.
Good Luck.
