Hello smile.gif
For Piano Grade 6 ,
The Chromatic Scales , when the examiner says to begin on a note, one should play for RH, LH and then hands together .
But for the normal scales, the examiner indicates which hands to play (RH, LH or both ) or else one should play for all RH followed by LH and finally the hands together Because for both of them it states : legato, hands together one octave apart and hands separately ? Is it the same for the Arpeggios and the Diminished Sevenths?

Thanks !

I would just play the scales/chromatics/dominant 7ths etc all hands together only, unless the examiner states otherwise.

You don't need to play the same one 3 times in all combinations smile.gif

You should be able to play hands separate and hands together and the examiner will tell you if (s)he wants LH or RH. If this is not specified then play hands together.
I've not heard of hands separate being asked very often but make sure that you can do it.

Just want to add that I was asked for at least one scale on the LH, despite the existence of it with both hands.
Do practise separate hands too. You'd be surprised that being able to play both hands does not guarantee that you can play separate hands...

In my case, my left hand was the follower, and would fumble without the lead of the right hand. Hence special effort was made to play LH only.

I noticed this problem when I was around grade 5 and always practised scales both hands together band separate after that.

Am I right ? or is it the same like the others?

I don't think chromatic scales are any different. I usually assume that if the examiner has not stated LH or RH then he want me to play hands together, even with chromatics, arpeggios etc.

Play hands together for all scales and arpeggios where the syllabus says 'hands together and separate' unless the examiner asks for one hand only.

The examiner will make it clear which hand(s) they want. They will ask for right/left hand only or hands together. If they don't specify, I would take that to mean play HT, or you could ask them to clarify if you're not sure. smile.gif
