Hockets and trills are so much easier after a glass of beer. Does this mean that I am not relaxing my singing aparatus enough without the alcohol?
Czerny
Is that a bit like the way people think they drive better after a few pints?! tongue.gif
HenryJ
blush.gif Yes, perhaps. My usual repertoire doesn't include hockets either. They are certainly easier after beer.

If the question in serious: Might be, although it shouldn't encourage you to drink before singing Rossini, but rather having a look at your technique again wink.gif

A trill in singing is merely a laryngeal shake, so if you have the tendency to keep your larynx locked in a certain position (mostly low if you are singing classical), it might feel difficult to sing trills and ornaments in general.

It's a bit like organised hiccoughing.

Thats a hoquet.

A hocket is when a single line is shared between to vocalists, or other instrumentalists, and one sings/plays the other rests, and vice versa. Its common in handbell music too I believe.

Maybe the OP is singing with someone they fancy, therefore are finding it easier, when err. drunk?

rolleyes.gif Very good. I do actually know the difference between a medical condition and a musical device, thanks!

Are you sure, Tiddles?

Czerny
Yes, Squirt.

In fact the word 'hocket' actually derives from 'hocquet' (meaning hiccough)...
hello_cello
Sincere apologies, Tiddles.

I thought hockets after beer were a normal occurrence? unsure.gif

Sounds too much like Rickets to me!

Sincere apologies, Tiddles.

The unauthorised use of the monicker 'Tiddles' renders the already dubious use of the adjective 'Sincere' somewhat unconvincing. dry.gif
