QUOTE (Student @ Nov 25 2004, 08:39 AM)
I'm just starting my violin lessons. I can't make my fourth finger to 'twist' the right. I have tried many many times but to no avail. Instead, it just goes to the opposite way (if you know what I mean). Plus, my teacher is awfully strict with it. Help !

It isn't clear exactly what you're trying to do but matters of finger control can so often be resolved with will-power and concentration.
I presume it isn't painful to do what you're supposed to do becuase if it is, you have to think again.

Decide you're going to do...whatever.
Gaze at your little finger and inwardly will it to go where you want it to go. Concentrate hard - the concentration and intensity are often the most tiring parts but once you've built up a bit of discipline it'll get easier.

Good, that you have a strict teacher being you have finger control problems and don't like the metronome - it means you're getting value for money.

Good luck!

how exactly do you mean 'twist'? do you mean as in playing with your 4th finger on its tip, hence slightly more to the right then it would naturally be??
urm, if i were you i would practice rocking from the pad of your finger tip to the tip and back etc. but i dont exactly know what you mean unsure.gif -maybe i'm just being stupid!! tongue.gif

I think I understand wwhat you mean. Its difficult to explain but have you tried moving your elbow, (the one under the violin that is) move it more under the violin (to the right) its helped my with my 4th finger a lot. I hope you get what I mean!!!! Gud luck
Luv me
