Anyone about to start applying for a PGCE? Or is there anyone who has just started their PGCE?

I'm in the process of looking around for somewhere to study a PGCE in secondary music. Exciting!

Anyone got any suggestions of where is good to study?

I've been told Bath Spa is quite good for teaching, it's also a lovely place to live and study. smile.gif I don't know much about other places, but because I live so close to Bath, most of our teachers at school graduated from there after the PGCE course, and any who i've spoken to have loved doing a course there and all recomended it. Hope this helps a little! smile.gif

How far from home do you want to be? Oxford should be good for music, I'd have thought.

Thanks for the info pianist_flautist!

Hi BM, yeah Oxford Brookes does the secondary music PGCE but I'm torn at the moment between exploring another part of the country or sticking close to home where I know several schools in the area that I could do my placements in. I'm worried about getting stuck in Oxfordshire for the rest of my career (which is no bad thing I guess, it's a good county for music!).

Just been filling out the qualification part of the GTTR application this morning, it asks for the standard things like title of degree, instituation, subject etc. And then it asks for what modules I studied within the degree and time spent on them! Is it seriously asking me to calculate how many hours of tuition I've received for every module I've studied over the 3 years? UCAS was a breeze compared to this! haha!

I did the Brookes PGCE... it was good. Smaller than lots of courses (12?)...

I've had friends do them at Roehampton.

They do a lot of teacher training there.

Did mine at Institute of Education, London. Fantastic experience, with teaching practise in Hackney - real challenge, but well worth it!

Thanks for all the info folks! I've narrowed my choices down to a shortlist of 13, just got to get it down to 4 now! Bristol is the fave at the mo followed closely by Roehampton, I've been checking out all the websites for the unis and talking to graduates. Going to try and have a look at some of them asap. Exciting stuff!
Just got to write this blooming personal statement now and throw myself at the nearest secondary school in the hope of getting some classroom experience in...

I finished my PGCE in July so know how choice making is difficult for where to go.

The number of hours studied may be printed on your transcript from your first university somewhere mine was, have a check.
