Full Version: Ou A214 As Substitution For Grade 5 Theory?

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that the ABRSM accepts the Open University's course A214 as a suitable alternative to the Grade 5 theory requirement for higher levels of practical exams.

I might be a long way from that point yet (taking Grade I violin this session), but can anybody point me in the right direction of that snippet of info, or did I just dream it all up?!

Would be reassuring to think that I don't have to put too much time that could be spent practising into the old Eric Taylor workbooks again wink.gif

Thanks,

Yes, I think you are right. I was granted exemption from Grade 5 Theory because of my OU Music Diploma, but I'm fairly certain that A214 on its own is enough.

I phoned the Associated Board, and they sent me a letter of confirmation. For higher level exams, I just photocopied it to send in with the exam application form. It was all very straightforward. I would give them a ring.

It actually substitutes for the G6 theory requirement for the teaching diploma, so I'm sure you'd be ok for g5

Thanks for the replies - it's good to know that I was paying attention somewhere along the way wink.gif
