All work and no sleep but lots of caffeine makes Claudia very hyper laugh.gif

Did you not get any sleep last night?...
Babybird2
I actually got to sleep ok. Until my alarm went off at 5:15 laugh.gif

At least you managed to get some sleep smile.gif

Hope Flossie's feeling a bit less stressed today...I'd like to see that word 'stressed' removed from her signature...

In that case, talk about coffee and the letters you'll have after your name once you've got your PhD (note I say 'once you've got it' ) biggrin.gif
Babybird2
Or the letters before my name tongue.gif

Jacobi's not been on this thread for ages. unsure.gif
Babybird2
He's probably busy working laugh.gif
barry-clari
You're stuck with me instead. And I haven't got a PhD, am not currently working towards a PhD, and am highly likely never to be working towards getting a PhD! laugh.gif

You both have my admiration! smile.gif
lottie
Oh help sad.gif

I've just discovered a gap in the literature for a PhD in fine art... developing my Masters thesis...

nooooooooo!!!!! There are a million reasons why I don't want to do a PhD... and only a couple why I do... blush.gif laugh.gif rolleyes.gif

Nope.. bad idea.. too scary
Babybird2
Whar are the reasons for/against, lottie? laugh.gif

Well... laugh.gif

Againsts:
The cost - don't know how much the fees are
My health - not sure if I can work consistently for 7 years (can't risk it full time)
My poor memory and bad organisation - I think the Masters is stretching me enough!
Lack of earning power due to studying most of the time
Lack of money to travel to do the necessary research
Do I really need another degree?
My desire to constantly talk about my ideas and bore all my friends to death (again)
Lack of funding
Lack of funding
Lack of funding laugh.gif
The pressure: it seems an impossibly enormous task!

Fors:
Well, wow, it would be amazing fun and such a creative experience (it would be Fine Art)
There is a gap in the market for my particular idea
It would be an incredible achievement
It would certainly structure the next few years of my life laugh.gif
The possibility of seeing my work published
Tortellini
I am missing my PhD blink.gif I am on maternity leave until next academic year but think I should start getting back into it before then as I will forget everything otherwise! Might try and start this afternoon....on the other hand I need that time for a sleep.gif !

And you'll be Dr Babybird2 soon. smile.gif

I wonder who Dr Babybird1 is... ph34r.gif laugh.gif
Babybird2
A quick google search suggests there isn't one. It's just me laugh.gif
Flossie
My thesis is so boring to read. wacko.gif Poor examiners. sad.gif
Babybird2
You're only thinking that because you've worked on it for years and years, of course it'll be boring for you! laugh.gif

unsure.gif

What if it is boring to them or they think it's rubbish? unsure.gif
Babybird2
They'll ask you lots of questions wink.gif

I'm sure it'll be fine smile.gif
Flossie
I'm worried in case I fail....... unsure.gif
Babybird2
I'm worried that I will fail too....

But then, the statistics say you won't fail - they would have kicked you out years ago if you weren't up to standard. Plus your supervisor wouldn't let you submit if they thought there was a chance of you failing smile.gif
Flossie
They said at the viva preparation workshop I went to here that 9/10 students pass either outright, via minor corrections or via a resubmission. unsure.gif What if I'm in the 10% that don't? sad.gif eek.gif
Babybird2
What if you're in the 90% that do pass outright? tongue.gif

Seriously, the chances of you failing are really, really slim; You've done lots of work, you've had decent supervision, you're writing papers.... so you have original work and stuff.

YOU WILL PASS!!!
Flossie
We'll see. smile.gif

Time to scoot or I'll miss the bus home. ph34r.gif

Flossie
party1.gif Party time, except I feel absolutely shattered. sleep.gif sleep.gif

3.5 hours. Minor corrections which sound fairly major to me and which are about something (a new theme) which I'm completely uninterested in. wacko.gif I actually feel more sad.gif than smile.gif. unsure.gif
