Apologies if this has been asked before...

I'm finding that a lot of pupils struggle seem to struggle with Grade 3 theory more than I expect. This includes some that I have taken on while they have been working at Grade 3 so I don't think it's my teaching that's caused this (hope not anyway)! I'm looking for alternatives to the standard ABRSM theory books and was wondering if anyone could reccommend any? Something with possibly a little more explanation or a more step-by-step approach? I've got a copy of Theory for Young Musicians by Ying Ying Ng for Grades 4 and 5 which I really like the look of and will be using with a couple of my pupils if they survive Grade 3!

Thanks smile.gif

I think the ones we used were called "theory is fun" much less stodgy than the AB ones. My daughter was 11 when she did her grade 5 and found the AB ones rather dry.

Theory made Easy (grades) by Lina Ng

and Theory revision workbook (grades) by Lee Ching Ching

I don't happen to have the grade 3 books in front of me - but my younger students are enjoying the earlier grade ones.
