Amanda Hazelwood
I always wanted to learn to play a musical instrument, however, school was not interested.

When deciding want I'd like for my birthday it came to me that this might be the ideal time to learn. So my husband bought me a violin for my 40th. I have so far had 2 lessons & am looking forward to my 3rd lesson tonight. I try to practice during the day, but I'm studying for a Foundation Degree & have a toddler so time is thin.

I currently have a half hour lesson each week. she is a very nice tutor who is really understanding as I can't read music either. So I'm learning to play the violin & read music, hard work but lots of fun.

I'm also looking forward to taking my grades & progressing my playing further as I really believe it's not too late to enjoy music. This has changed my outlook & I'm looking forward to seeing my first orcestral performance in November.

All the best to all & keep at it.

Hiya Amanda, welcome.gif to the forums!

Quick guided tour for you:

Viva Strings is where people talk strings/bridges/bowing techniques etc.
Adult Learners is where you can share your experiences on being an adult learner on violin
Forum Events (a sub forum off the General Music Forum) is where you can find performance opportunities, including the chance to meet other forum members. We've just had a forum concert in Chester, with lots of solos, small and large groups, we're doing two more large ensemble playdays in Taunton, Somerset on 3rd Oct, and Greenwich, London on 28th Nov : you're most welcome to come and play. There's lots more different events in 2010.
And here in the cafe, you can just chill after a hard day's work.

Hope you have fun here! biggrin.gif

Welcome Amanda. No it is never too late, I was coming up to 50 when I embarked on my piano lessons. From there I also went into theory and this year have started on a degree in humanities with music.

Was my life long ambition to play the piano but never had the opportunity. With most of my family grown and my youngest getting older I decided, it was now my turn.

Look forward to seeing you posting.

Hallo from a adult violin learner.

Hi Amanda

Sounds simialr to me (except the 40 bit, I am but a mere chick at 38).
Never played a thing.
Can't read music.
Picked up piano in January after buying my 2 year old a little red keyboard from ELC. He couldn't get it on it!
Now signed up for grade 1 in Nov / Dec.
Keep at it. It just keeps getting better.

Welcome! Never too late, hope you really enjoy learning the violin, I wonder if there's a community orchestra around you? It's always great to meet other players and it definitely improves your playing!!!
