I've never heard you play anything live Solari, so why not go for some music you're already comfortable with, especially as you've had a bit of a mad time of late? smile.gif

Thanks both of you I will arrange to get there for 1pm.

Sol, don't worry too much about what you are going to play, else you will get me all worried too. I plan just to bring lots of music and go for it from there. I refuse to let the nerves get the better of me.

Of course I will have the advantage that I will have done Pro Corda the week before.

I have a good idea of what I will (try to) play anyway, I think it'll be a nice, relaxed, supportive and fun environment smile.gif

Hello everyone! wave.gif

I have tried to book the venue for the after event food/drink. They said they didn't take bookings, but they assured me they'd have plenty of room for us.

It's a very nice little place. They had lots of nice beer. I was a good b-c, and I resisted the temptation laugh.gif

Aww, what a shame. I'd only been playing for 5 months when I accompanied Celeste and mwl1 singing one of the songs from my tutor book at the Leeds concert last January and I really enjoyed doing it. And the other day I suggested to my teacher another piece that I might accompany at the next concert and he was all for it. He thinks the piece I've chosen is too easy though and he wants me to add some chords blink.gif biggrin.gif Does your teacher realise it's very informal and just between friends?

My cousin has been on at me for ages about learning Tom Lehrer's "I Hold Your Hand in Mine", but I don't seem to be able to get the time.

I think that if we make this a regular thing, perhaps some duets might be good. Might turn into chaos seeing as people won't be able to practice together but in theory as long as you learn your part and can keep a steady pulse, it could work!

Thanks Skylark for your comment. smile.gif My teacher is the nicest person you could ever meet and she only meant well by saying I wasn't ready. I've told her it was very informal and we'd only be a handful of people but being a good teacher she wishes she'd had time to teach me the pieces I'm going to play so I can play them well. I did tell her I would give her more notice next time so she can help me and she is happy with that (but still very worried about the 24th!!!!...more than me!! laugh.gif )

I shouldn't worry too much Sol. We've done some pretty interesting things in forum events before, with little/no rehearsal, so a piano duet or twelve I'm sure would be great biggrin.gif

Pathetique 2nd Mvt. It'll be the 2nd time I've attempted to play it in front of other people... ph34r.gif Took a few months to learn so I may as well make use of the time investment by playing it (well, trying to! Don't expect a high quality performance!).

I think going over my grade pieces might be an idea too, so I can see how I do under a bit of pressure. smile.gif

We'll see ;-)

I did Menuet in G, Les Pfferari (sp!) which I absolutely loved playing, and the evil evil evil TopCat which drove me totally nuts. After being pretty much able to sight read it hand separately, it took me forever to get the hands co-ordinated and it only came together about two weeks before the exam.

My teacher said that a surprisingly large number of students have trouble getting the swung rhythm, but I found it OK? I think I know the tune so well that it hasn't been much of an issue to learn smile.gif

I tried going through the Quajira and thought that was evil for a grade 3 exam. I like the Petit Berger and the Mozart Andante in C, however.

"Tell You" and "L'Elephant", I just thought "yuck!".

Seeing that beautiful Steinway grand piano in Chester has made me want to have a go of one. I'm toying with the idea of hiring a practice room in London for a few hours, preferably with a similar piano. Does anyone know of any and the rates?

Are there any prerequisites for doing this? Also, I was thinking perhaps one or two other adult learners might fancy joining in for a bit of plonking around on a nice piano, and maybe lunch afterwards?

Yours fervently,
