Absolutely nothing wrong with Stepping Stones at any age, this is the book I started on at the 'young age' of 38

I recommend finding a teacher who is serious on technique, although I have learnt a bit in two and a half years with 'the wrong teacher', I could have been 'much better quality' by now if I had the right teaching from the start!
Good technique at the beginning will ensure good intonation and ability to play well later!
